Can anybody recommend this? I have been thinking about getting more into DC stuff. I have always liked the DC villains and with the Infinite Crisis set coming up, this seems like a good pick. Any thoughts?
If you have a good knowledge of obscure DC Villains ... it's a great read just for playing 'spot the looney' ... so to speak.
It's a nice read, as it makes Catman cool for, probably, the only time in DCU history, lol.
Also, it does set up Infinite Crisis better than most of the miniseries short of OMAC Project [which sets up the relationship of the 'big three' heroes].
The VU books pretty much show what's going on in the villain side of things, and there particular 'mission' is one of the most immediately relevant to Alex Luthor's plan as explained in Infinite Crisis [all the countdown stuff is sort of McGuffin busywork that sort of connects to what's going on in Infinite Crisis ... but is really an excuse to reintroduce some stuff that we can pay off with new series].
In other words:
From the pages of Rann-Thanagar we get Ion
From the pages of Day of Vengence we get a new Spectre comic series, a new Blue Beetle comic series and most importantly, the Shadowpact comic series.
Villains United leads to the Secret Six series.
OMAC leads to the Checkmate series ... and there's more stuff like that I'd assume.
But ultimately, I picked up the Villains United and OMAC Project as it came out while I waited to pick up the trade for the Magic and Space minis ...
I dont get you people catman is cool always has been at least to me. Thats like saying anyday aquaman is cool thats a good day when he was cool to begin with as well... -_-
Long live the "C" listers. I think the obscure heroes and villians are the coolest. Jokers gonna poison somebody. Luthor is gonna take over the world. Ragdoll is gonna.... well, hes gonna....hmmm.

Actually, I enjoyed Day of Vengeance more than Villains United, but this did definitely take second.
And Catman is best when he's not cool. You know, in the Green Arrow storyline "Archer's Quest"? That was the ####ing best.
"It's impossible... He's got dogs. Catman has dogs."
"You're watching TV in your old costume. You have any idea how sad that is?"
"Not half as sad as owning those dogs."
