According to what I have seen in metagame website, it seems that Avengers Reservist has finally lose the "power" it used to have when Michael Jacob won his 3rd 10K making him the 1st person to win 3 10Ks. There was no Avengers Reservist in the Top 8. Then again, PC is a measurement of overall skill.
As I have not been playing this game for quite some time, is the field currently more aggressive to the extent that Avengers are not up to par to play with Squadron Superme? Or is it that I missed out something?
X-Faces have either the Mob/Brave New World to negate any off-initiative tricks Avengers has (Which makes them otherwise extremely easy.) and Squadron decks are teched even further to have bigger nut draws. Avengers is the most consistent deck I guess....but not exactly "Bang for buck" in this format.

Enemy of My Enemy helps consistency two ways, it's playable any time (allowing for panacea/answer) and it can effectively tutor since it's perfectly viable to have alternate drops at each spot.
I think the X-Faces change was what set them out of the limelight. Changing that match-up from a good one to a bad one, really hurt them. Both of those match-ups (squad/faces) end up being very tough, which was a huge part of the meta. Had it been otherwise, they would have fared much better.
I wouldn't discount them though. With the surprising resurgence of defense I think they'll make a comeback. Avengers is really the best deck at making defensive PTs meaningless. They were the ones who put acrobatic dodge to rest imo. I don't think the current batch of stall decks have a game against Avengers, but they were too small a part of the meta.
Me (playing Avengers) beat a net-decked X-Faces in the semi's of a PCQ yesterday. To get around the whole brave+mob, all I did was switch up the game plan to doc druid and survive until turn 6, while doing damage still of course. No stun-backs on your initiative is what makes the difference. However, there is no way you can beat a perfect draw X-Faces with Avengers.
Squadron (still) is nearly invincible to Avengers, and the aggro of Faces makes it a tough matchup. Avengers is still very good, tho, and if built right can probably take on Faces/Squad.
IMO, The off-curve stunning is the main thing about Avengers. They should havea good chance on hitting the Squadron Supremes badly. Shape is obviously Hawkeye's number 1 target. The question here lies on would Wonder Man be able to deal enough damage?
Morlock evasion has pumps that can be used either on defense and offense. If SQ have them, then the story will be very very different. They will definitely beat Avengers.
I feel rather interested with Widi's build of having many different team affiliations in his deck. EoME surely is a good card and most probably will take over Answer The Call since the cost/effect (Can't remember) would also allow a card discard which is what SQ wants.
X-Faces really made it GAME OVER for Avengers after reading the posts and examining the decks. However, I think cards like System Failure should be able to well-teched against such circumstances.
Mental deck definitely came as a surprise. Most people would expect Physical deck since its an aggro field but it seems that the Mental decks are doing well. Anyway, I doubt they proved any threats to the Avengers since the Mental characters have average stats and the Avengers should have no problem giving their characters a little pump to take out the higher drops since Momentary Distraction cannot be used on those Mental guys. :)
SQ have no defensive pumps, what are your thoughts on making it EVEN more powerful on defense?
Probably after this PC, people will tech Genis Vell. There's your def pump.
X-Faces kills Avengers because besides Dr. Druid, they're really nothing but small-butt people that don't require much pumps to take out. Their off-initiative tricks mean nothing now.
Mental decks are good because they have an incredible ability to back-wall most attacks when focoused.
When more people tech System Failure, more X-Faces will run Project Liberator. It's that simple.
Reservatist in general aren't as good simply because they're not fast. Consistantcy is nice, but if the deck has better nutx, they'll beat you a lot more in a one-game format. Or 2 game. They just beat you.
Would adding War of Attrition be an answer to Brave New World/Mob Mentality? System failure is great against F.O.X but not that great against SqS. I think a brotherhood splash of Anna marie could help against SqS..oh well random thoughts..
Another query, does Squadron players play defensive PTs? As far as I see, no. So, they just get stun while defending and do nothing and see Faces get more ppl on the field other than using Panacea Potion to save their characters?
Shouldn't you still be able to get a stun off init with Hawkeye? Unless they happen to have one of their 3 drops out of course, but just wait till they attack the exhaust for the ability. Of course I did notice a greater amount of 3's in the Faces decks.
Project liberator is a possibility for some variants. I'm hesitant to believe it'll see play though. As it isn't an incidental tech like mob is (since mob is also a pump), and it stops you from playing Wrecking Crew (though that wasn't in alot of the builds).
Dunno about attrition. I'm not sure I want my Mansion replaced. Anne Marie is no help for Squad, as their PTs can be played outside of the combat phase (except the occassional potion block).
