...if an iconic team actually had a chance to win a golden age event?
I mean teams like JLA, Team Superman, Gotham Knights, X-Men, etc as opposed to teams like Squadron, Faces, etc.
And I know Avengers has won but it's all reservists (i.e. relative unknowns compared to the heavy hitters on the team.)
I'd just like to actually see a team that I got into the game because of in the first place. Not dissing all you Squadron Supreme or Sentinel (I know they haven't won in a while but they were dominant) fans, it'd just be nice...

No doubt. This is still a great game but some of the best and most famous super heroes are some of the most unplayable or less effective cards.
I don't know why, but the same thing happened in HeroClix. The best pieces ended being Doc Samson or random heros of the lesser kind.
Now I think it's what you'll end up when you base powers/effectst upon realistic representation of the hero. Some powers/numbers will end up being more synergic...It just happens to be that control and card draw (GK) can't keep up with big bodies/recovery tricks/burn (SS). If it where the other way around and characters would be poorly represented, people would screem even more.
Can you imagine how much hate would be flung if some goodie-two-shoes uber-popular team had held the throne as tightly as Sentinels did? Teen Titans at least have the adolescent angst thing going for them.
But besides you, I don't think I know anyone who actually enjoyed playing Sentinels, and you didn't even play curve.
You can't relate to a bunch of robots and they offer nothing to strive for, which is something the big Superheroes like Superman, etc have to offer. I mean, everyone wants to be Superman.
I am in no way a "normal" person, so you may be right. I would never want to be Superman, there is no challenge in it. Too good, too pretty, too popular for me personally.
I find it funny that Squadron - Marvel's version of a DC superhero team - does better that the team they were modeled after.
But I'm with you Bacon. I mean, who can identify with AGL? Superman and Spider-man two of the biggest iconic characters have so-so teams. Spidey and Friends have had some interesting decks along the way (GK/SF, Spider Stall). But nothing that seemed to last.
I guess thats why I enjoy our hobby league - everyone plays what they enjoy and you don't have to worry about the Tier1 Stuff (much).
Actually, I remember an article on metagame saying that they make popular characters more powerful.
You know "Unus"? They said that, were he more popular, he would've been a 2/3 instead of a 2/2.
Maybe it's not that R&D is doing this on purpose, but that they don't realize the power levels of the cards they are making. I'm not sure which would piss me off more....
