the general stratergy is this. orphan on his own with the belt for the whole game, and if needed amazo to help out if hes outnumbered. ive seen other build of x-statix that uses cards like empath and capt boomerang and ragman. although i see where theyre coming from your essentially putting in non-xstatix card in there that could hinder you later on with sayt he spin doctorings and the star of the shows. that coupled with the fact that empath has to actually become stunned before you can KO him, whihc is very very risky. i am however thinking about replacing amazo for say the demon - etrigan, basically cos this burns while the single charecter gets huge ala vivsector. the H'ronmeers curse idea i got from another thread - homerj to be exact gave me the idea, thanks ;). this really does help agaisnt weenie rush. if played right orphan simply has to be team attacked, and thats why glory hound made an appearance. tell me your thoughts, they are appreciated.
If you want to keep it silver age, you can't play Etrigan.
I'd never play Mr. Sensitive. Why play a character that ends up not being able to attack on your init?
As for the non-X-Statix characters in an X-Statix build - I use Capt. Boomerang, Mikado and Mosha, Psycho Pirate and Prof. X - Mental Master. I'm also experimenting with Ragman. I don't care about Spin Doctoring for those characters. Star of the Show only needs 1 X-Statix character discarded to flip. If you'll notice, it doesn't specify X-Statix to get its ongoing effect. Any lone character, regardless of affiliation, will do.
Off-team characters can still be discarded to meet the cost of Spin (any card can be discared). I don't need to use Spin Doctoring on any of those characters, either. The lower drops all have effects that either remove themselves (Capt. Boomerang can always target himself) or discarded for an effect (Mikado and Mosha). Plus, Capt. Boomerang is a 3/2, which is pretty much required these days to ensure you can stun an opposing 2 drop. Vivisector doesn't cut it as a character to put in play on 2 these days. Corkscrew is the only on-team drop with a 3/2, and his effect is not nearly as useful as Boomerang's. The high drops are when you're ready to win the game and don't need to be going loner anymore.
H'ronmeer's Curse is a card I have considered for my X-Statix build as well. The main problem is finding room. I think you will want 1 more Mutant of the Year because there's enough decks with burn (AGL and Squadron being the most obvious) that need it more reliably to have a chance against. You can probably safely cut a Glory Hound for it.
i see what your saying, however i dont actually play a charecter until 3, which is usually orphan and a FFB, then im pretty much set for life, and if need be a paht would ddo nicley if im getting rushed.i only use vivisector for burn, nothing more.
Take the strategy back to golden and use Salvage with Meltdown to give you two Force Field Belts on some turns. Could do a rather complex combo with Rama Tut, Devils Due, and Slaughter Swamp for a recuring Force Field Belt every turn plus additional counters.
Also Keleko was Facing Problems about Banished To the Antimatter Universe.
Play Forcefeild belt as it has to target an Non Equiped character that makes them use it on someone they might not want to, and cause its Transferable if you get one out you might you should be able to protect you Lone character.
Anybody thought a strategy X-Statix can do agaisnt Glock? It seems every deck has trouble with this deck. With only one character versus 5 characters + cover fire + helping hand, how can you even do more than one damage a turn? Anybody got ideas?
glock seems to be an issue for most decks...my initial reactionwas burn, but then again they use black hand to gain in all back and then some. i think H'ronmeersa will help witht he lower drops such as black hand and kyle and so on, but yes their def pumps highly outweigh the x-statix ones. plot negation might be the way to go. possibly adding some NTZ's and using them at key moments could help you punch through their defense, and if you want a trickier way to go about it, maybe some district-X with a couple of mental dominations and so on. thats all i could think of off the top of my head, you get rid of those plot twists you pretty much make them small and insignificat compared to your loner. any other ideas guys?
I've been playing around with a MK/X-Statix build. The combo of Zietgeist+Swandive+Spin Doctoring+Attack+Swan Dive=You have no board left. Thanks for coming out. I usually let my board fill up all the way to 5 or 6, then I clear the table and let my loners do their thing. I can clear out earlier if I need to, but I'd rather not do it too early.
It seems like the real problem with Glock, is how do you beat them after their Grodd has Stolen your Orphan, and is beating you across the face with it Mr. "I don't recruit characters." Star of the show seems so ridiculously important, and yet it can't be searched out like Breaking Ground.
Even if Glock only plays the one copy, it means you will have to have two star of the shows.
Well, it seems someone played X-Statix at the $10k this weekend. It seemed to be doing well, at least up through 5 rounds. I'd sure like to know how it finished up.
The MK teamup sounds quite interesting to use with Swan Dive. I'll have to experiment with that.
The Hellfirwe team up gives you the Academy. you can recruit another character, use any of it's effects, then KO it to put a toekn on your loner AND Draw a card. If your other characters are energy, with Evil Eye, this might have some real potential. Not to mention, recruiting someone like Magneto, using his own effect to stun their 5 during build, then KO'ing him to add another token to the loner is good also.
