Ok, so in DCR they made a pretty good 8 Captain Marvel, and Spectre flavor and power wise. So why is Superboy, the main villan in Infinite Crisis, not have a more flavor correct power? I mean come on, a COSMIC counter, and all it does is -3 to opponent, +3 to you? That is a bunch of crap.
I was talking it over with people in my shop, it seems like he was really mishandled. How is he a RARE? I mean Captain Marvel gets "Win the Game", Spectre gets stun all other characters. They couldn't make a more flavor correct power/drop for Superboy, the big bad villan of the story the set is SUPPOSED to be about?
But then they truly should have changed the name of the set. I'm sorry, but calling a set "Infinite Crisis" and NOT having the main villan is a bunch of crap.

The version of Superboy we have now represents him as he appeared in CoIE, not IC.
I'd somewhat agree with that. I'm sure they knew the basic premise of the story and it's main characters. However, this is a card game and no matter what all of the cards need to be balanced somehow. They could very well make him a 5-drop with 12 attack and 12 defense without some ridiculous unplayable drawback. It's kind of like that with all the Superman cards too.
Well now he is neither very playable OR an unplayable flavor accurate character. Honestly, he needed to be a 9/10 drop like the Anti-Monitor or Meggadon. OR make a good playable version of him. Instead they made him a crappy 5 drop rare.

Well, if that's the way you feel, send them an e-mail and tell them you care more about accurate representation than you do about tying into current events.
If you're not the only one, I'm sure they'll take it into account when choosing the themes of future sets.
I happen to like characters with a drop number that games actually reach, and I for one am officially tired of drops bigger than 7. The games rarely go past that and the ones that do are meant to, and in those cases they already have better finishers. I understand the flavor aspect of having huge guys fit the story line, but in my opinion they are completely unplayable. Oh yay they made a flavorful Mageddon thats going to collect dust in my trade binder! I'll sell every one of them for a quarter right this second.
Then dear God make him more playable then he is. If he's NOT going to be flavorful with an accurate drop, then make him a GOOD card. 10/8, Crisis affiliated (Because those are just so plentiful in this set), that has a Cosmic counter for -3 to your opponent and +3 to you. If he can't be flavorful then he should have been a more playable card.
As is, he is probably going to see as much play as Mageddon. It's just a shame to see stuff like the Anti-Monitor and Imperiex represented accuratly, but SuperfreakingBoy Prime is shown as a crappy 5 drop. He could have even been a great 8 drop like the new Captain Marvel.
Well, at a quarter each PM me the info and I will buy all your 8 drops and above.
I kinda predicted they woudl have thematic problems getting a set out before a comic arc is even complete, but no big deal really. As for the card itself.... a 6 point Endurance swing on stunning is pretty big actually. In a deck that can restore those cosmic counters, he would be great I would think.
So i don't see him as an underpowered card at all, just limited by being Cosmic. That is the plague of Supermen afterall...
Can't wait for Galactus to come and show the VS Universe how cosmic can be done right!
I'm just pissed they managed to get Spectre/Marvel right but not the true big bad wolf.
And yes, yes Galactus is going to be STRAIGHT. That Surfer has something that makes Cosmic good. Maybe a 6 endurance swing would be alright if it wern't cosmic.

Upper Deck didn't know Superboy Prime would be the main villain, but knew Bart Allen would appear as "The Flash" and that Alexander Luthor Jr would be a villain?

Wow, I actually get to beg to differ with Biz once... If I remember correctly about 6 months ago or so when it was announced that the next DC set would be Infinite Crisis I remember the person who made the announcement said that to help them make the set DC actually gave them the advanced storylines for Infinite Crisis. Included in the post was the fact that they said "That means you may see stuff in the set that you don't understand until the entire comic series is completed."
That would lead me to believe that they actually knew that Superboy Prime was the main villain (aside from Alexander Luthor since he was the one pulling the strings if you want to be technical... but since when isn't a version of Lex not pulling strings behind the curtain?).
So my verdict based on that memory is that they dropped the ball big time with this.
Thus far however, i woudl have a hard time calling him a 'Villain', so much as a really strong pawn. And maybe thats where this card is coming from. he is really just someone being played by his emotions, and not nearly as influential as the mastermind pulling the strings so to speak.
Each fracture helped his own cause, but hurt the reality in question. So when he gets stunned, we have that same effect, hurting the 'other' reality... and helping his own.
