... At Blizzard's tourney yesterday, some of us got into discussion about why certain characters have range and others don't. oone person said that, in reguards to spider-man, the character would have to deal damage from more than 100 yards away. At this someone else said "well, the hulk can do that. all he has to do is JUMP..." then I piped back in, saying that that would take up more actions than the character shouold be allowed, like using more than your alloted actions in D&D. Then I said wait a minute! VS D&D! what do you guys think? Then they cheered & were like that would be completely awesome. one person even came over to shake my hand ... how bizzare... but, what do you guys think about the concept? can it work, or would it end up like the failed comic rpgs? what could be different?
I know of heroclicks, and that is hardly anything like D&D. Granted, heroclicks isn't a bad game, but the idea isn't just moving & making actions. D&D has campaigns. Does Heroclicks? nope. & either way, I'm just throwin' the idea out there. gotta love random threads
Yeah, a bit of a broken system, but won lots of awards.
Truthfully I think they have yet to make a truly good "advancing" Superhero game. In M&M, as with Champions, you start off "about as powerful as you're gonna get", with little advancement.
Now Big Eyes, Small Mouth D20 is good for it, but that's more anime-style.
i have to say, heroclix is the exact thing you're describing
trust me i played for more than 2 years, it was an awesome game at first, and i'd still be playing if they didn't change the game so drastically every set, or have retirement
Originally posted by Dr. Cube There is a D&D type game with superheroes. You can make your own hero. It's called Mutants And Masterminds.
There's also a much better RPG system for making super-heroes, and it's called Champions. Anyone who has never tried it should look up Champions and the Hero System (the RPG system Champions uses). Give it a whirl. You'll be impressed, methinks. Best superhero RPG ever made, by leaps and bounds. EvilDave mentioned it very briefly. But he is wrong in one way: You can DEFINITELY get MUCH more powerful in Champions than you started off as. It has a completely freeform advancement. ;)
necro post, for people who haven't had the chance to read/comment. I was just looking through my thread posts and this poped up... thought 'hey, i wonder who else might wanna read it' so here ya go =p

what I'm thinking is people would have characters, be a part of a team and have their own agenda, level up, have abilities(spells), and do whatever else D&D-ers do.
thats fine for comics, but what'd really be cool is if there was a way to integrate something vs-ish into this little project.
To be honest, D&D would be a horrible choice to convert a superhero game to. But, superhero gaming can be a whole lot of fun. I've played in a few different ones - they're hard too run, but tons of fun when they work.
Why not just make your own VS DnD.. ? just make the character bio pages, type/write the rules..and make some npc's.. and have a bunch of friends test it out.
It sounds hard and difficult.. but its alot of fun..and when ts done it'll be sweet
