I've been as Hulk fan for awhile, but I've been moving and setting things up the last few months,so I'm behind on Hulk. When did Hulk start killing people? It's been well established for years that the Hulk's rampages are not completely mindless. If he endangers someone he saves them. Now all of a sudden I read Avengers Illuminati and they basically tell us Hulk kills people frequently on his rampages.I'm not a fan of the Ultimates, and I've noticed far too much Ultimates storylines infiltrating continuity.Hopefully I don't have to stop reading Marvel.Marvel has my favorite characters, but when my favorite characters are Spider-man(lets screw with his powers),Dr.Octopus(what's up with the screwy costume)Hulk(lets have him start killing people)and X-Men(secondary mutations!?Who's back from the dead!?)you start to get a little jaded.
It's Bendis expressing his thoughts regarding the Hulk... He couldn't believe that there are no casualties after all those rampages that the Hulk has had... It's not like Hulk killed the people on purpose, it's just that his rampages have resulted in deaths (which is more realistic, I'd say)...
As to which you prefer, some would argue that if they wanted realism, they'd read the news, not comics... Personally, it's ok with me if they state that there has been deaths resulting from the Hulk wreaking havoc...
I understand where you're coming from,I understand that comics are heading in a new direction, but as a traditionalist,I feel like tradition is being spit on for the sake of being "edgier"It's not just Marvel.DC brings back silver age Superboy and turns him into a cold blodded psychopath? If you want a killer Hulk, leave it in Ultimates. If you want a killer Superboy, make an Elseworlds book of it.Leave something for us traditionalists to read.
I personally never believed Hulk hasn't killed anyone (intentionally is another story).
It doesn't make any sense. I don't like my stories having their inner consistency reduced because companies are worried about telling people death occurs.
It's never been graphic, it's always been incidental death.
PS Why "Dear Upper Deck?" They have nothing to do with the stories!
It has been established and reiterated recently that Hulk doesn't kill people,as unrealistic as that may be.Hulk was/is one of my all time favorites, but if they turn him into a killer on a whim to sell books,Marvel IS going down hill and I've been defending them for naught.

Where, by who, and does the context make "accidental killings" impossible?

To me, Marvel went downhill if they said he WASN'T a killer to sell books. Being honest about his destruction is better than lying about it (unless the CHARCTER was lying...).
Hulk:Gray.Doc Sampson speaking to Banner spoke of how all the rampages Hulk had gone on,nobody has been killed. That is the most recent that I'm aware of.You can argue all you want, that's fine.To me saying Hulk is a killer breaks down his foundation.I'm actually asking literally, which issue in Marvel was actually the first to change his 40+ year history.I know it was recent and was curious.
Doc Sampson is a pyschologist, which means he's a liar who ####s with peoples heads.
Haha! I sound like a scientologist now!
No, but really, Sampson is a dirty liar. If no one died during a Hulk rampage, ever, it'd be the most retard- It'd be one of the Top 1000 stupiest things ever said and/or ideas written into comics. To believe that a tremor from a Hulk jump didn't at some time cause a building full of people to collapse... Is stupid. To believe that for every life Hulk stops to save that there's 3-4 more he never even sees or hears... Is stupid.
Hulk is a wonderful character who even at his most light hearted is a deeply pyschologicaly driven character rooted in the concept of man vs. monster and the balance a hero finds inbetween. Part of being a monster in the case of Hulk is the fact that it is undeniable, undoubtable that at some point, probably regularly, he causes incidental deaths in the civillian population.
As long as Main Universe Hulk isn't eating people and randomly popping the heads of random civvies, there is nothing wrong with acknowledging the overwhelmingly obvious fact that he is the direct cause of the death of many people.
And to be fair? I don't think there's a major character who HASN'T killed someone on purpose, by accident or incidently in their mainstream, Original Universe canon.

That's completely the wrong point of view (as Ranma was saying).
Hulk is modern day Jekel and Hyde. The Hulk is an uncontrollable beast. As long as he's not DELIBERATELY killing people, he's the same character.
He loses all meaning if you believe that he, in all his crazy rampages, has always found a way to never kill someone. He is absolutely pointless if that was the case, he's just another random superhero, just one who causes a lot of property damage.
If the only instance of saying "Hulk doesn't kill" was Doc Sampson, I'm willing to bet he was believed to have killed before that. In other words, saying he didn't kill was the later change. But I don't have enough issues of Hulk to find a statement to that effect.
The most recent statement of Hulk having killed was in the Illuminati issue.
EDIT: But in researching this, I've decided the whole thing is the stupidest arguement ever. They're damn stories, and you aren't supposed to be spoon-fed all the information. Decide for yourself if Hulk has killed or not, and if you want to stop reading, go ahead. But you'll miss out on good stories by holding to a rigid point of view.
I'm not trying to agrue. To paraphrase what Labrat said,if I wanted realism I'd read the news.Is it realistic that people would die in Hulk's rampages, sure. This isn't real life, this is a comic book.Hulk didn't kill anybody for 40 years,oh wait, now he does. How many times of late have we had writers backtrack and completely screw up what a character IS,not what a character realistically should be.Gwen Stacy loses her virginity to Norman Osbourne?!Makes no sense.Spider-mans powers start expanding, that's just bad writing. Now Hulk kills people. How about sticking to new stories, not filling in the past with Peter's girlfriend banging his worst enemy. All I wanted to know is what issue they broke the news on that Hulk kills people, not to be labeled stupid by ramma solo for being a traditionalist.
Silly Comic Book Code made all sorts of things not happen back in the day. Then again, I understand what your saying. Spider-Man doesn't kill, Hulk does not kill, Capt American when he really has to. Leave the killing to the Punisher and Wolverine. That's what they are there for
So what exact comic is this that it is stated by an unreliable source that no one has ever been killed inadvertantly, indirectly, or accidently by the Hulks actions?
