Hey gang, I have two days at home before heading up for the shuttle launch and some worthless hack over at Metagame wrote this:
Each Vs. System deck could be considered a story in itself. There are characters and plot twists and locations and equipment, just like a comic book. The best part? You and I get to decide who gets to be in each tale. We get to custom-tailor our myths.
So, like which deck is best? What's your favorite myth-mash? Longshot and the Purple Robots? Felix Faust deals with an attack of the Eraser-heads? Qwardians Gone Wild? Merlyn shoots for the King?
And, most importantly, shouldn't they take the PC champion's deck and make a real comic book with the characters it uses?
The story-line between Justice League of Arkham itself is an interesting enough of a story, but the craziness that can come from trying to create a story out of that DECK would be a thing of legend. ;)
I like the CE deck's story from last year ... and an army of varied spidermen treking through the jungle in search of the lost city accopanied by dagger and longshot as jungle guides appeals to me too. but thats obv. bias :ermm:
Originally posted by stubarnes Biz, if it really happened in the comic books does it get a plus one or minus one in the scoring?
I'd say +1, since comic history has shown us that fans love repeated team-ups.
Take Cobra and Mr. Hyde for example. Originally, they were two villains who had absolutely nothing in common outside of a mutual disrespect for the law and personal hatred of Daredevil. The two were teamed-up one day, as most villains are some point or another, and there was nothing particularly special about it, but when they joined forces a second time, their partnership became a thing of legend. Now it seems strange to see one without the other being mentioned.
Aw, it feels good to stretch the old nerd-muscles again. I forgot how much I like this place.
Originally posted by stubarnes Does Enemy and its ability to juxtapose insane impossible myth-mashes onto the characters bother you as a comic purist?
I think Enemy of My Enemy is an excellent flavor card based on name/effect synchronization alone. A card's name is one of it's most important flavor elements, especially for plot twists. The name needs to tell what the plot twist's effect is trying to represent. Let's use Enemy of My Enemy as an example.
Character X is the the character you discard to play the card.
Character Y is the character you search for using the card's effect.
Character Z is an unknown character, presumably someone in your opponents deck.
The card's effect represents how Character X and Character Y both hate Character Z so much that they're willing to work together, even if they don't really like each other.
The fun part is trying to figure out who Character Z is and why Character X and Character Y hate Character Z so very much. :)
Here's something fun to try. Next time you play Enemy of My Enemy, picture the character you're searching for and the character you're discarding shaking hands in the art instead of Shaw and Magneto. It can lead to some pretty funny mental pictures.
