Is it possible to Science Spire Sarge Steel after his effect is on the chain so you end up stunning no one?
For example I have Sarge protecting Bizaro, Bizaro should stun at the end of an attack instead I chose to stun Sarge Steel. In response I Science Spire.....does it work?
You may be mistaking Sarge Steel's power for a triggered one---triggered powers are identified by the phrases "when," "whenever," and "at the start of." When the trigger happens, these powers generate effects, which means they use the chain.
Sarge Steel has a replacement modifier, marked by the word "instead." He isn't triggered by an event, he replaces an event that would happen so that it actually never occurs. Replacement modifiers do not generate effects, which means they don't use the chain---these replacements occur immediately.
Additionally, stunning Sarge Steel is what's called a replacement cost; like any cost, you actually have to pay it if you want the benefits. To shield the protected character, you really do have to stun Sarge Steel.
Herocomplex: What if Sarge Steel is protecting Annihilation Protocol OMAC, and my opponent attacks OMAC. In a case where both would stun, can I opt to stun Sarge Steel instead and chain to it's power, exhausting him to pay for OMAC's power to KO the attacker? I don't quite understand the timing of this scenario. Hope you can help. Thanks

While I'm sure HeroComplex will be along soon to explain, here's the short version:
Sarge's ability is a replacement modifier. If the character he protects would be stunned, you may replace that by stunning Sarge. This happens during the attack wrap-up, when nobody has priority. That means that there is no opportunity to use Annihilation protocol's power, since there are no priority points between the stun and Sarge's replacement resolving.
I may be wrong here, and it would be something like the Tim Drake stunning thing I'm sure. Hero or Tog will be along to clarify shortly. :)
