i should have just made my login name "I have a question"
anyway, in referance to the abilities like beasts' ability: pay 0 endurance search for an equipment thing, and xorns pay 0 recover a stunned character, when exactly do these effects occur and how do they chain in response to say, xorn being face down, taking him as the free recover and then trying to recover john proudstar<>thunderbird?
and can i get xorn as my free recover and huse him to bring up the new 4-drop xavier to draw the extra card?
The problem is that "free recovery" happens during "wrap-up" at which time no additional effects may be played until the next round. "Wrap up" recover character/ready characters happens last in a round no priority, no effects.
The recovery phase can be broken into three "parts" so to speak.
The start of the recovery phase triggers all the effects that refer to the start of the recovery phase [for example, any character that evaded would have their recovery put on the chain at this point].
Before any of those effects can be resolved, players get priority and have to each pass and then whatever is at the top of the stack will resolve. The recovery phase doesn't "end" until both players pass on an empty stack.
Before it reaches that point, you are allowed to add MORE effects. Specifically, this is the time to use effects that "can only be used during the recovery phase" like Origins 2-drop Oracle's draw effect or the various X-Men effects [Xorn, Jubilee, Beast, Prof X, Havok, etc] The idea for the X-Men was that, by using their various recovery effects [Children of the Atom, Phoenix Rising, etc] you could get to use their Pay 0 Endurance effects.
After both players pass on an empty chain their is a wrap up of the recovery phase. This is where endurance totals are compared [to see if someone won the game], then each player gets their "free recovery" and KO's any other stunned characters. No one gets priority until the next draw step.
So, if you use your free recovery to get back Xorn, he won't be able to recover anyone else that turn.
You don't have to worry about having questions, but it is also a good idea to take a look around for the answers yourself---it can help your understanding of the game, or prepare you to deal with a rules issue mid-game, etc.
For instance, the Upper Deck website has FAQs that were put together for each set's release. If you need help with a particular card or a new type of mechanic, there may be tips on how to use it in the appropriate set FAQ. Not everything can be answered that way, but it's a good place to start.
