What changes would you like to see to the Hobby League System
With 07 fastly aproaching and talk about changing the Hobby League set up in the coming year
What changes would you guys like to see?
I myself am not sure I just want a hobby league around me (thats why im working with a store owner and hope to start running a hobby league in the next few months)
I don't think so . If they do Please tell me there swinning threw Massachusetts .what was the site you got this info from I'd like to do some research please.
definantly more places to play, I live in Long Beach, California, theres 1 or 2 places but 2 cities away from me, I dont have the gas money to keep going 2 cities away just for a tournie of any kind, I mean theres plenty of game places or comic stores in my area that Could hold these things but they dont which is really a drag I mean I'm still trying to get experience in the game.
As an additional question should hobby league play effect your rating score to allow you to get rating invites to PCs? I can see both ways some areas are low in PCQs so rating invites are good, but it also creates an enviroment that makes people want to play the tier decks instead of the fun decks. I know it was no fun going 0-x with a Darkseid deck gettting crushed by the decks I read about on metagame. I would love for hobby league to get back to being more about turning cards sideways so that even the new players don't feel overwhelmed by being crushed.
i would like to actually have something like FNM, where you have a silverage tournament for exaple and people show up and play and they try to win. Better prizes dear god, we went from good rares, to fucntional cards, to utter garbage lately. Yah i dont expect to get Ea Mobize as a hobby league prize, but i definly dont want to be stuck with the option of crap, poop, and unplayable.
To actually recive hobby league kits, my area has not had a new one in ages, the store says its on upperdeck from not sending them out. Why have a hobby league if there is no prize. Atendence acountablity, like back when if you showed up enough and got your card stamped you won a certin prize, make that prize good to make me hate to miss out on not showing up 3 weeks in a row.
Aong with making the kits on time, also make them limited. So that if a person isnt there to get the foils, they miss out. This also goes along with making the prizes worth a damn. To follow up with this how about hobby league exclusives. for the legion set for instance, make a Cosmic Boy <> rokk krin, drop exclusive to hoby league so that the only way to get him is to partisipate in the said league. If the card ends up being worth a damn then maybe people would make it a point to show up for the said card.
Why not toss some more shirts or deck boxes out there. something tangable for a person who could care less if their card is shiny.
I agree with the points being made that the prizes could be made better or exclusive to hobby league to rekindle interest.
I remember when I was going to a hobby league that was really busy every week, and we had prizes like Sinestro GLoK or Wild Ride or Genosha which were all AMAZING cards at the time, and still very playable now.
Deranged Bear: as far as your want for Booster Drafts in Hobby League, TELL YOUR T.O.! Back when I was running a hobby league (I'm more focused on playing instead of judging/organizing now, but that's another soap box for another thread...) usually as soon as a set was out my players would all want to do a draft, and so we would. We would also do them whenever the interest from the players was good enough. Talk to the people at your league, and get a petition to the TO, I'm sure he'd be fine with running more drafts.
