I always liked Alan Scott more than any other Green Lantern (except maybe G'nort) and to hear of his passing is sad. The idea was great and all of the characters that have spawned out of Alan Scott is amazing (outside of just the GL Corps, there are characters like Green Ghost or Dr. Spectrum), and his creator, Martin Nodell, will be missed greatly.
"And I shall shed my light over dark evil,
For the dark things cannot stand the light,
the light of the Green Lantern!"
On worlds afar or scenes at home,
wherever the cause should make me roam,
always I vow to fight the good fight--
to combat evil with all Green Lantern's might!
I charge this ring with matchless might,
To banish all of evil's blight.
The cosmos through,
in every part,
one thing endures:
a loving heart.
Against the knaves
who'd quell this song
Green Lanterns stand,
to right the wrong!
In brightest light, in darkest sea,
all dangers will be seen by me!
While others from these dangers flee,
I shall always a Green Lantern be!
In forest dark or glade beferned,
no blade of grass shall go unturned.
Let those that have the daylight spurned,
tread not where this green lamp has burned.
In brightest day, in blackest night,
no evil shall escape my sight!
Let those who worship evil's might,
beware my power.. Green Lantern's light!
The light of justice is so serene,
that evil's dark can ne'er demean.
The light of justice must be seen--
And it shall--
in the lantern green.
"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Access again."
I was never much of a green lantern fan growing up. It seemed very two dimensional. (although the same could be said for the majority of comic characters early on in their existence).
Then I read "In Darkest Night"
and The ION storyline, and a few others.
The character and plot depth those provided (especially ION)singlehandedly made me a fanboy to yet another comic character. ;)
I don't know anything about the man who created it, besides the obvious. Nonetheless I'm very glad he did, and thus I extend to those who he left behind my condolences.
for me its always been Conner kent and Hal jordan. And if not for this man i wouldnt have one of my childhood heroes, so it is with deep regret that i write this sad post. As the green lantern corps grows in the new DC universe let us hope they dont forget thier true founder.
