Anyone else see the potentional for a broken strategy. Never has a deck before besides justice leauge of arkham been able to force an opponent to maintain less resources than you, but this has possibilities.
If they have no cards in hand, and you ko a location they control, they have nothing to replace it with... Screams broken to me. Now, what if they aren't playing locations? Easy enough, we mix in darkseid for Firepits of Apokolips and bam, EomE brokenness. With a couple good 2 and 3 drop substitute character with concealed on the darkseid team, getting a darksied character into play without being too much of a liability shouldn't be hard, and thats only assuming they aren't playing locations to flip on their own. If you can get this to work on 4 by underdropping witschi, and the rest of the game, your a drop ahead of your opponents curve.
not sure if this is viable. Just noticed the interaction and thought I would set it here for the other, smarter Vs minds to either break or dismiss. Let the flames begin!
And would be cool, but how do you get their hand empty is the question.
Well, playing a FF curve build, they can keep their cards in hand if need be, and you'll just get lots of good effects for free like lightning lord and cosmic king, tempus fugit, chain lightning, ect. Seems like I probably still win.
I think Tim "the traitor" Willoughby created a Metagame article ages ago (in the DC Orgins era) that 'abused' Josefs potential to deprive your opponents of a resource to its fullest. Lightly put, the proposed deck was strictly casual.
The fact of the matter is that all of the Future Foes mandatory discard effects are combat based. There is nothing you can do to deprive your opponent of the two cards he draws at the start of his turn. Aside from that, those characters come so far late in the game that it really doesnt matter by that time - Braniac 4(3), Mordru(6), and Computo(5).
So, there is basically no practical way to guarantee that your opponent has no cards in hand by the time you activate Josefs power, among other things.
I like to compare wacky combo decks to Rigged Elections. If its easier to accomplish than winning by Rigged, then I usually build up the deck and give it a go. A deck based around depriving your opponents resources this way is much more difficult to accomplish than winning with Rigged, so we can determine the idea is not competitive.
I'll basically echo Tim's arguments here, it's just too cumbersome to pull off, for a POSSIBLE effect. If discard is going to get broken again, I think it's much more likely to come from someone like the MOR Professor X than Josef.
If Dr. Light was still legal, it could just be inside the bounds of reliability. Josef's resource depletion potential has always been a 'known' factor. The real issue is that with decks that don't run them, there are far too many hoops to jump through to make it viable in general, and the loss of Dr. Light means you can't casually make him available to a Future Foes deck... bringing him in becomes a far more work-intensive task that is probably not going to be worth the trouble 95% of the time.
Not tournament worthy but who cares lets build it anyway... some ideas... 5 drop mor professor 2 cards gone.. Using something like xaviers school on josef to knock out 2 locations.. This xmen run also allows the use of changeling to drop josef.. Lets throw out other ideas..
