Interested in helping run a proxy tournament so I figured I might as well get some feed back.
Here are some questions I have.
Right now I'm thinking that said store should allow players to proxy 4 copies of Enemy of my Enemy/Mobilize. These cards are hard to find and are staple to deckbuilding. As such it might bring about an increased turnout.
My issue is then: Should players who have their set of Enemy/Mobo proxy something else? Should players be allowed to proxy more then four cards? What if a deck - like Crisis/Lust of Power - wants to proxy both? Obviously a store wants to run this so being able to sell product here is crucial so it can't be an all proxy tournament. There's also the issue of cheating. Because it's going to be a small tournament, there won't be decklists so some people might more proxies then they should. Unless they see the entire deck in a given game, I don't know how the owners would catch this. I'm thinking the Golden number here is five. Thoughts?
Finally, should the store reward players who aren't proxying?
Would such a tournament - if held local to you - espouse more interest then just normal tournaments?
If the card is causing that much difficulty, just ban enemy like they should have years ago and be done with it ;).
Local bans FTW!
(Disclaimer: I own 10 Enemies. I still think sales will skyrocket once UDE bans the card or it rotates out, and my decks wouldn't all be called "toolbox decks")
Failing this, make the tourney either "Big deck" (where Enemy is banned, and where singleton rares like Mobility have less of an impact); or play some peasent common-uncommon format. Talk to your locals, what us internet people say doesn't matter nearly as much as them :).
Personally, I'd play in more locals if Poison Ivy and Enemy were banned... more cohesive decks.

Big Deck is the rads. It is a rediculously fun format, and almost anyone can build one, as the single card rules make even the most expensive rares viable.

I love Big Deck but I can't seem to convince my local playgroup of that. I've been trying to introduce more "casual" formats, but it's been hard. I'm going to be running the Smackdown style this week, so we'll see how that goes.

Que?
What is the Smackdown format? I'm not familiar with it, but I am a big fan of casual-styles (as my team moniker might imply...)
I'd have no problem with that, but only for those two cards. You have to draw the line somewhere, and I don't like the idea of every deck out there having zillions of proxies. I mean, you have to OWN some cards, ya know?

This is true to a point. However, some people don't like Enemy or Mobilize. And what if they're missing other good cards to make their deck work? If you've got 4 Mobilize but only one Time Trapper, why should you be punished for having all the search and not enough characters while people are rewarded for the opposite?

It's all about two sides of fairness here.
The difference is Mobilize is very expensive and difficult to get, whereas TIme Trapper is a 5-buck card and available all over the place. If TT is that important to your deck, you should be able to fork out a bit of cash to grab them.

Same thing with EOME/Mobilize--if you can scrounge up $20, you're probably working a job and can afford the extra 50-75. Except here's the difference: you can get by with the less-rare more team-specific search cards. If you're missing a big character, then there goes your deck. Search cards are a dime a dozen; game-changing cards like Time Trapper are not.
I never understood what the big hoopla was about plot twists, anyway.

You can't be serious. $50-75? Where did you find a playset of EOME/Mobilized for that price? Because if the supply is readily availible this discussion is pointless.
Back to the subject...
I'll be the jerk (mostly because I have nothing better to do) and say, proxy tournaments are the beginning of the end for a game. With proxies UDE makes no money. No money = No more time/effort on game.
Just my opinion.
