I didn't post this in any of the threads talking about the video game because everyone seems to be drooling over themselves for the thing and I don't want to start being negative or critical in a positive thread...
But I've tried to get excited for this release, and I just can't.
Am I the only one who thinks this is going to be crappy or are there others out there?
i personally think its pretty cool. online tournaments and such, i dont see how thats a bad thing. and this is from someone whose been unexcited about the game for some months now.
Basically imagine being able to play VS anytime you want without having to drive or leave the house. Imagine that whenever you have a crazy deck idea out you can try it immediately. Imagine not having to sift through your collection to build deck or be forced to pull cards out of your old decks. Imagine that you, instead of having to beg to playtest, can just simply jump on the internet and test to your heart's delight. Imagine having a metagame that evolves 1-2 times faster then the normal card games. Now imagine all of that... and you can do it in your boxers too.
I'm really excited about this game. I'm going to be on it starting day one. I missed the IPA craze one, and I'm not looking to miss it again.

I don't have to imagine it - I've loaded OCTGN...
Now - Imagine OCTGN, except, you need to pay real money for digital cards - and everytime you do get that crazy deck idea - well, hope it didn't include a DC character. Again - I'm not telling anyone not to buy it - but I don't think i will myself.
and a meta that evolves twice as fast as real life...again not without DC - and not without Heralds and Team up.

I'm not going to try to convince you as you seem to have your mind made up. However, I will say that you seem to imply that the only difference between OCTGN and VODO is just that OCTGN is free is FAR FAR from the truth.
look at some of the other card games to get the video game treatment. Pokemon had a game and it messed up the games mechanics, but had a spiffy promo. Dragon Ball Z had one...and it kinda sucked except for the promo. the Yu-Gi_oh games confused the hell out of me, but had pretty promos...so the common factor...PROMOS...promos are nice to get, but i think the prior games had it good, they issued cards not available elsewhere, so you had to get the game, EA armegeddon may look cool, but does the playability increase? when you already have them from HoG. I like the idea, but im hesitant to buy into it due to card game based video games of the past, and i played most of them due to having younger siblings and a TON of free time.

My dear friend let me explain some things to you.
My reasonings why this game is better then DBZ/Pokemon/YGO.
First off, the mediums the game will be on allow for game enhancements. Whereas for Game Boy games you can only store so much data - and you can't just upgrade it online - the fact that we can play VSO on the PSP and PC mean that we will be able to download things - like expansions - which will keep your game experience ever evolving and improving.
Secondly, the games you've mentioned have all used single player as their main draw. The problem is card games aren't meant to be played that way. When it comes to something as complicated as card games - where things like mulligans and match-ups will affect your playing style - an AI - at least right now - can't do all that well. This game looks to have a much larger focus on player v player tournaments.
In addition, the difference between playing on PC and playing on Game Boy is huge. In order to link up two portable gaming units, you need to be near each other. In that case... why not just play the physical card game? With the PSP and PC though, you can connect to the internet which means you can play more people from farther away places which in turns means more people.
Maybe I'm expecting too much of a MODO experience... but I think this game is a lot better then you think. Don't knock it till you've tried it.
Magic does have an online game, but I wouldn't compare it to this. It has the entire cardpool, and once a full set if completed it is redeemable for real cards. All I really want in a vs game is a magic online copycat. Without having DC I myself won't be getting it either. But for those who like it enjoy.
