Well, PC Sydney is just 2 weeks away now and boy am I pumped. It is going to be the best Pro Circuit ever! Sydney is a great part of Australia and there is a lot going on as far as I know. My fellow New Zealanders, commonly [and mistakenly] referred to as Australians :noid:, are well on our way to being prepared for some reasonable finishes at the Circuit.
For those of you who don't know, I'm going to be part of the Metagame coverage team (one of the best teams ever, in my humble opinion) and I'm pretty sure that this is going to be the best event coverage you'll see for a while. In a few days my article should be up on metagame (I've got to actually submit it first) and then you might get to know a little bit more about who I am.
In any case, the point of this post was to build energy for PC Sydney. So... what's everyone feeling? I think that Silver Age is going to be amazing this PC - with the bannings and the recent release of Legions, I think that there is going to be a huge amount of variety in the metagame. I'm a firm believer that Kree/Villains-United is the benchmark deck for this PC, and if you aren't able to beat it you won't stand much of a chance. For more information regarding this... check out the metagame coverage of $10k Sydney HERE, which has all the decklists you might expect to appear.
What are people expecting to see make up the metagame? What are people looking at for a top 8 make-up? What do you think will be the dominant deck on Day 1? Do you think the metagame will be geared towards combo, beatdown, control or swarm?
Some of my predictions;
Metagame -- 40% Kree & Kree VU
15% Checkmate
08% Skrulls
08% Good Guys
02% Faces
01% Avengers
01% Squadron
15% - New control decks
09% - New aggro/swarm decks
01% - New combo decks
I think the metagame is going to be dominated in numbers by swarm and beatdown decks, but it is going to be the control decks that take up the wins at the end of Day 1. I'm predicting a reasonably high proportion of Checkmate because it is still such a solid deck with answers to almost every question. It is also notable in that it has the most solid answer to Kree in SA - Check and Mate. Decks like Good Guys and Faces will be appearing in reasonable numbers still, because these decks originated in Australia/NZ and the locals are still proud of them. I think that for many, they are the default deck of choice.
Well, that's about all I have to say right now -- but let's get the discussion going.
This is going to be a tough nut to get cracking right now. Anyone attending the event will be hush-hush. Anyone who has been testing with someone who is going will be hush-hush. All the rest of us either haven't been testing or we don't want to spoil someone's deck by guessing. I did a much smaller set of predictions this time (for my article next Monday), since my picks were so close last time. I basically spoiled both Jonesy and Prosak's tech by accident, and I was glad they bailed me out by making the final in spite of it.
It's a tense and exciting time for the metagame, and once again it will be interesting to see if random forum spills help decide the outcome.
It looks like a awsome format and location, im sad im not gonna make it. I look forward to the coverage, good luck.
edit : the heralds inhumans deck will be there in some %, its really good.
ah ha ha. i laugh at myself. i thought the thread was going to be about buliding an mutant:energy deck for pc sydney. hmmm. that's it! that's my prediction. scrub says energy bulid sweeps day 1 but poor drafting skills by deck pilot means wash out on day 2.
yes i'm crazy. what can i say, i just got off my axe after five hours of guitar hero II. it's a psychobilly freakout!!!
