Does anyone know exactly how the currently rating system works. I am still very much into the game, but currently have a rating of 2578.
Is there a standard amount you get for each win/loss?
Is the amount of points per win/loss dependent on your opponents rating?
Is the amount of points per win/loss dependent on your record for the day
Is it easier to gain points when you hardly have any or is it consistent throughout?(Example: When playing rpgs at the start of the game you level up much quicker than towards the middle/end of the game. Is this system similar?)
1) the C-Value of the tournament. This is the challenge level of the tournament, as seen by UDE. I know PCQs have a C-Value of 30, Hobby Leagues are lower, 10ks higher, and PCs even higher.
2) Your current rating
3) Your opponent's current rating
I don't think UDE ever released the exact formula. If it works like the ELO rating system (the one chess uses) then it becomes harder to gain points the higher your rating is, and easier to lose them.
edit - I think that was a bad explaination. Basically, if you are expected to beat the person (because your rating is much higher than theirs) if you win, you won't gain many points. But if you lose, you'll lose a bunch of points. The reverse is also true, if you are expected to lose, and do lose, you won't lose much. If you win, you gain a lot of points. The # gained and lost depends on the differences in the ratings, and the C-Value
This is discovered through my being anal and naturally learning about the rating system.
Stew is correct but misses out on Judge level. If the head judge of the event you are playing in is higher than level 1 then that affects the rating change.
C-Value 10: If 2 players start off with new accounts (both at 2500) and play each other the winner will gain 5 points and ther loser loses 5 points.
C-Value 20: If 2 players start off with new accounts (both at 2500) and play each other the winner will gain 10 points and ther loser loses 10 points.
C-Value 30: If 2 players start off with new accounts (both at 2500) and play each other the winner will gain 15 points and ther loser loses 15 points.
If you have a rating of 3000 and play someone with 2500 and beat them in a C-Value 30 tournament you'll gain less than 15 points as you are significantly higher than them. They will as a result lose less points too.
So to answer your original questions;
Is there a standard amount you get for each win/loss? Sort of. Is the amount of points per win/loss dependent on your opponents rating? Yes Is the amount of points per win/loss dependent on your record for the day No Is it easier to gain points when you hardly have any or is it consistent throughout? Yes
Although a pretty good system. One major problem...
The results never change.
My own experience is the worst case senerio:
Like most players at first I sucked. Everyone starts with the same points. My points went down with every tournament. After a few months I started getting better. Now, years later, I have a pretty good average sealed and contructed.
Begin Rant:
My points haven't changed since I started! If they reset every so often... Say once a year. It would be nice.
