Spider-Man: Parasitic Host
Substitute, Concealed - Optional
Discard two cards -> The next time target character would ready this turn, instead, it remains exhausted. Use only once per turn.
Quote
Samantha Parrington <> Valkyrie: Chooser of the Slain
Substitute
Backup: Activate -> When target character you control next attacks this turn, ready it. Use only during the build phase.
Quote
Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu
Dual Loyalty
Pay 3 ATK this turn -> Ready Moon Knight. Use only once per turn and only if Moon Knight is attacking.
ok, here is the situation. you activated Sam on Moon Knight. Moon Knight attacks, before Sam's effect resolves your opponent discards to Spider-man. before that resolves you pay the 3 ATK to Moon Knight.
now Moon Knight will ready to his effect, then Spider-Man resolves preventing the next MK from readying the next time. then Sam's effect resolves, but since MK is ready it does nothing.
now does SM's effect prevent Sam's effect from doing anything, or does the fact that MK is already ready mean that SM's effect doesnt trigger and then prevent MK from readying during the Recovery Phase?
It appears to me that the Moon Knight effect unecessarily duplicates the Valkyrie effect. Resolving the chain from last to first, Moon Knight readies, then Spidey's effect resolves (the next time Moony readies, instead he doesn't), then Valkyrie's BU effect resolves but effectively does nothing because Moony is already ready. In the end, Moony can potentially attack twice but won't ready in the recovery phase if no other readying effects are played on him.
If you let the Spidey effect resolve first, then play Moony's effect at least he will be able to attack twice AND ready at the end of the turn, as Spidey will stop one of the readying effects, but not the other and will not be in place to stop the natural readying in the recovery phase.
“Ready” is both an event and a characteristic. The event consists of removing the exhausted characteristic from a character and giving it the ready characteristic.
The readying event means a change from exhausted --> ready. Since that isn't happening during Samantha's resolution, it isn't an instance of readying and won't "use up" Parasitic Host's modifier. The modifier will still be around the next time that Moon Knight tries to ready, since he hasn't found a "next time" yet.
You'd be better served allowing one or more of the effects to resolve before using Moon Knight, so that Parasitic Host's modifier actually gets invoked/depleted/whathaveyou.
As an extra note, Parasitic Host is setting up a replacement modifier, not a triggered one. When the character tries to ready, it simply prevents that event, rather than "triggering" and getting the chain involved.
so you can respond to an attack. if you use it before a character attacks they can jyst choos enot to attack. but if you use it while they're attacking, they won't ready. one thing I have learned in Vs. is in almost situations it is better to wait till the last possible second to play something.
But as the Spider-Friends player, you're making your opponent's decisions too easy for him. If you empty your hand to use Parasitic Host, you're telegraphing your lack of responses to the opponent; he gets to figure out his attacks knowing that you have no surprises in your hand. If your resource row happens to be face-up, too, he knows exactly what you're capable of hitting him with.
Even if you have nothing useful in hand, waiting to use Parasitic Host keeps two cards as threats, which can affect the opponent's decisions. They could be Nasty Surprises, Spider-Senses, power-ups, or any number of things---so long as you keep them in hand. And the more difficult you make his decisions, the more likely he is to make a mistake.
The real question is, why would you ever telegraph your moves by using Parasitic Host earlier than you have to.
Because we are talking about a specific deck and it's win condition. When you mention Moon Knight, I am responding to "Moonknight Has Spoken" a deck which tries to win on turn 5 or 6. That being the case, and knowing that the whole point of their deck is to swing for the fences with Moonknight. There's no subterfuge there. They want to smash face, I want to stop that. Assuming I'm on defense on turn 5, I'll have White Tiger out, who if played correctly will absorb Moonknight's only attack as planned. If I have initiative, I'm running Mattie into Moonknight and using the Host, then I'm sending Tiger into their 4 and Host into their 3. So in an ideal world they'll have their 5 drop pinned on turn 6, and their 4 drop (who likes to use back-up). Then I'll just Daredevil their board, pin their 6, move on to turn 7 and 8 which is MY endgame.
Oh and good SF decks don't run Spider Senses, they are useless in a meta where the average pump is +4.
Nasty is only back in vogue because of Quickfate, once that deck is hated out with Zinco and Level 12 that card will only be used as a utility card like it has been since Origins.
spider senses are bad?! I don't know how many times that card has saved me from a 4 drop trying to attack up curve getting just enough attack to stun and then I drop this bad boy. I think you are mistaken. The ideal way, as I see it, to win with a moon knight jas spoken deck would be to team attck your 5 with my 3 and 4 (or just 4 if they have sufficient pumps) and smash face with a fated moony into their 4 and then swing again into their three (possible 3rd time with other effects)
at least the way i see it. so you would do best to wait until moony attacks to use the effect, or declares an attack.
I like Spider Signal for its versitility. Inevitably, most control decks often have "problem characters" they wish they could attack, and don't particularly want to get boucned. So being able to use it as a +2 attack pump OR most of a dodge makes it a very good card for a competitive environment. I'd rather have it in Spiderfriends than Against All Odds.
Senses, like Dodge, probably isn't enough for Golden.
In a competitive environment SPider Senses are bad, they are not enough or can be played around.
What would you rather have 4X of in your deck?
Gift Wrapped, Entangle, or Senses?
As far as Moonknight Has Spoken, you HAVE to use Host in response to the Cloak or you're SOL anyway.
CC
But you're introducing way too much into the scenario.
If the scenario involves Cloak, then of course Parasitic Host should be used while it still can be; that's trivial. But even in that case, there is little reason to hastily use Host before the Cloak is recruited. But this situation didn't involve Cloak anyway, and based on the cards involved, it doesn't even have to be for Constructed.
As for the Spider-Senses discussion, the particular card we're talking about is largely immaterial, and as far as the timing of Host goes, the likelyhood of it appearing in decks shouldn't matter. The point still stands that you give away information by using Parasitic Host earlier than necessary; if there is no clear reason to use it early, then it only gives away information.
ok, here is the situation. you activated Sam on Moon Knight.
Alright, since no one else bother to answer the question:
You use Samantha Parington during the build on Moon Knight. Once Moon Knight attacks, he readies due to Sam Par's ability. However, in response they use Spider-Man's ability to say:"the next time the character would ready it does not. Which will negate the Sam Par's effect. You then in response pay the 3 atk to ready Moon Knight. Parastic Host is not very good...he's a lil' inconvienent but that's about it.
