Can a character who reads "whenever this character becomes stunned, something thing target stunned charactersomething thing " target themselves with their effect?
For example, can Talia (2-drop DCR) prevent herself from being KO'd in recovery and can Johann (6-drop EHB) recover himself and move himself to the hidden area if he's visible?
I looked through the comprehensive rules and all i came up with was that with triggered powers using the words "becomes stunned" you examine the game state before the stun, which leads me to believe that these characters can not target themselves, but I thouhgt I'd seen people on these boards say some conflicting things about powers like these, so I thought I'd check.
They use the game state before the stun to determine whether or not they can trigger, per 502.4. The rule is clarifying that your power is able to trigger, even though the power itself vanishes halfway through its trigger event.
502.4 doesn't affect when you place the triggered effect on the chain; per 506.2, you place it on the chain after its trigger happens, right before anyone would gain priority. And 506.3 clearly describes how only at that point do you go through the steps for playing an effect---like choosing your target.
You're choosing targets after the character is already stunned, so its a perfectly fine target.
