I went 3-1, which put me up against the Quicksilver Rush in the Finals. He won the die roll, and got initiative first for Game 1. I missed my 1st and 3rd drops, which signaled doom against his Quicksilver that did 28 total damage to me on turn 3.
Game 2 I had initiative first, and I hit every drop I wanted, but Quicksilver was too strong, and he defeated me on turn 5.
City Championship Boise, ID winning deck: Quicksilver Rush
Jacksonville, FL
15 people (double what we usually get for HL)
decks:
2 QuickFate
2 Check/Vill
1 X-mental
1 AGL
1 Wildmen or Xpack depending on your choice of names (x-men/wildpack)
2 Spiderfriends
1 Heralds/Spidey stall to galactus(9)
1 JLA short curve
2 D&D(Darkseid/Defenders)
1 Check/Rock
I'm missing one, but not sure what I missed.
The first City Championship of Jacksonville goes to the 11 year old running quickfate. My son, who picked the deck up for the first time last week, took it to the finals. His opponent in the finals? Dad. Running Check/Vill with some surprises.
There was a ton of stall decks. One interesting match had quickfate against quickfate. Final score -34 to -28. Colby (the 11 yr. old) won against the guy that I believe is the best player in the store.
Two people went 4-1 - Heralds/Spidey and quickfate. 3rd and 4th on tiebreakers at 3-2 was spidey stall and check/villains. Check/Vill beat Heralds/Spidey in one semi and quickfate won the other. It's all in the family, baby. So my son and I split with him getting the win. (I know I would beat him though, and we'll play later for the mat.)
I played very badly, but managed to get there anyway. The deck was a last second choice. I almost played JLI/Wildpack, and if I go to another tourney, I will.
For those that are interested, the main tweaks in check/vill are 3..2...1. Kaboom keeps Galactus from hitting the field. It can also be used to do replacement to slow down quicks. Or to replace that brother eye they are planning on just before attack legality. I also splashed in a 4 drop Darkseid and added in some Harvey Bullock. I only dropped him once to get rid of an Nth metal.
Another fun move was a game I lost. I dropped Lex with boost to drop another Ahmed into play. Double Ahmed. Weee.
So, 15 people was a good turnout. I'm sure myself or Dragoonxix will get out a better report later, but this hopefully gives you an idea of what to expect.
Is it me or is it overly obvious if you don't play Quickfate you don't win:p. Oddly enough though I am playing my own concoction of Sinister Syndicate Swarm at the closest City Championship next week. I probably won't win but I can't get myself to play Quickfate even though I have it built.
later,
Kj
The other deck gator's forgetting is a Brotherhood reservists deck. I played the AGL deck. I went 2-3 with a couple bad draws. Stu you can expect a PM here shortly...
i did terrible, no one played quickfate because we all decided to not play it.
tops were
Kree VU x 2
darkseid
Rock- jsa,checkmaite, heralds, defenders
good guys
sydicate VU rush i think, not sure
Future foes
15 team conjumble thing
intersting notes,
secret six victroy worked 2 times, Future foes was top seat after rounds, other decks that showed up were
Avengers, heralds checkmate, xmen energy, fated hellboy, agl, lost in space, and umm others
overall a fun event and i definaly look forward to doing them again. Though i do wish there was more for offical prize support or at least better prizes,
wtf EA 3 drop punisher?, why just why? Why waste EA slots on bad cards, why not something nice and simple like EA Moon Knight, Sanctum Santorum, or idk just something that would see play instead of him.
there was a split and Darkseid was declaired winner in ames iowa, with Kree Vu coming in second.
the 15 team conjumbel was just that..........all i knoww is that it was all about the koing of characters....early on deadshot and such. After Future Foes top 8ed i was roooting for it to win just because it would have been a good one to submit to the UDE tournament, and because Future Foes winning would have just been funny as hell.
Kree Vu and Good Guys both did well for there players that day. The big, i guess you could say "tech" card for the day was old fashioned Removed From Conitnuity. many games were decided by that card
..........examles removing Xallrap and Felix on their respective turns.......
also the Nasty Surprize was well a surprize and i got Pwned by it.
