there is a guy at my local store who always plays checkmate.

he has recently build checkmate/HoG.

I cannot beat it...how do i do it...i would build a whole deck around it as long as i could beat him...just once

anyone have any solutions for beating it. my best solution is to use planet weapon.

I play Checkmate/Heralds as well... though probably a bit differently. What is it about the deck that you're having a problem with?

Scarecrow Fearmonger hates on Heralds, but I'm with 'D' tell us what the problem is and we may be more help.

As a general rule... Darkseid Resource Row disruption tends to matchup favorably to Checkmate/X, in my experience (Dark Matter Drain can curb many of their locations shenanigans). Also, anything that can keep Ahmed locked down (Inhumans, for example) will generally make life much more difficult for the Checkmate player.

Bear in mind though, that Checkmate variants tend to do pretty well, even when their ideal setup is disrupted. They're robust like that.

Do they prefer Ahmed on 3 or Air-walker? If Ahmed I'd play war or attritions for the threats and Planet weapons then uni power to get to Ahmed it just disrupts the whole checkmate theme.

Typically my strategy is Spider-Man, Parasitic Host w/ Mxy and Haywire/Sanctuary to keep Ahmed locked down on 4. If he's good and knows what is coming up, he'll waste an activation to get 5th dimension unless he rawdogged it or has Threat Neutralized.

Keep Ahmed locked if they don't get a saving card, in which case I'll gun for the Ravager kill on Ahmed. It's greedy, but against something like cm/inhumans it's one of my few outs, as their ridiculous pump guys like karnak dwarf my stall.

For a typcial deck? Run teamups and just ravage Ahmed. EOME among other insane tutors are in this format, it shouldn't be that hard. United heros HQ is begging to help you out here. Blackheart also works well, although that is also meant for specific decks. He shouldn't be that hard to splash though, as there are a couple of reasons to backup either of his affiliations (okay more underworld, but hfc does offer power and wealth off initiative).

So basically everyone has a Proud Zinco to counter this imaginary Cloak of Nabu that no one puts on.

Nasty Surprise + KO effect + Greedy Checkmate player = turn 3 win.
