Ok, all this talk of the City Champs, but I have a question for everyone. Have all of these been free tournaments? If not, what have you had to pay to play?

And what prize support was there?

I'm pretty sure the general concensus was that if a store was going to charge anything beyond the minimal (ie. to pay for the kit), they would justify doing so by adding store credit/swag/boosters etc.
I think Erick's CC was 15 or 20, and there was a lot of store given support as well.
That's the max I would expect, although it's up to the discretion of each store.

Edgeworld charged 10, Comic Cult will charge 5. The going rate seems to be between free some places to about 15 dollars! Both Edgeworld and the Cult gave out or will give out mad extra swag with the standard prizes! Gosh I am lucky to live where I do, I could possibly go to 4 city champs withen 1 hour of where I live! Of course one of them choose the unlikely date of Easter so I wont be making that one!:cry:

You sound so happy cause you get 4 around you. What about the misfortunate vs players who have none around them. How you mock them. Boo!

Yeah, I have about 5 with in an hour easily I think.

They range from free with no extra support to 15.00 I think with nice support.

Unless you live in San Diego then you need to drive an hour or two!

So, just for the hobby league... our local store is attempting one. They want us to buy a pack (at their normal $4.50-$5.00 prices), and add a dollar. After the tourney, the extra dollars are then given, as STORE credit, to the top 2 or 3. Other than that, they will hand out the card in the kit as prizes and participation.

I HATE supporting their usury prices for packs. Just want to gauge if after all the lack of support we seen, if this is really worth getting behind or not. The HL will be tournaments only, and 'whatever employee happens to be on duty' is who I am told will be the TO.

$10 for my local scene. But the owner is adding a bunch of swag (playmats, packs, EAs, etc), so it's worth it.

I am not talking about city champs here... they want $5 each sunday just for their "Hobby League" tournament.... I dread what they will want to charge for a city champ.

That doesn't sound that bad, our local shop charges 5 for hobby league constructed and no guaranteed pack, but usually we draft for 11 $$. I've never heard any complaints. The same shop is also charging 5$ for the city champs and providing lunch as well as massive prize support!:) Support the shop they will support you!
