I've been trying to build a deck using Superman and the Legion of Superheroes. Right now the best thing that I could come up with was a variant of Blue Abuse, but substituting Legion characters for New Gods. I've had decent success so far, but I don't seem to have a great end game. Any advice would be most welcome.
Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes
Characters:
2 X Lois Lane, Earth 2
4 X Jazmin Cullen <> Kid Quantum
2 X Kelex
3 X Superman, Blue
1 X Cosmic Boy
1 X Eradicator, Soul of Krypton
3 X Timber Wolf
2 X Element Lad
1 X Bouncing Boy
1 X Apparition
1 X Sensor
3 X Triad
2 X XS
3 X Shrinking Violet
1 X Dream Girl
1 X Ferro Lad
Plot Twists:
4 X Super Speed
4 X Past, Present, and Future
4 X Many Worlds
3 X Solar Powered
4 X New Recruits
2 X Man Of Tomorrow
4 X Mega Blast
Locations:
2 X 31st Century Metropolis
1 X Science Police HQ
1 X Kandor
The basic premise of the deck is to have at least 5 cosmic characters on the field on turn five so you can get the most out of Superman, Blue's effect. A normal game for me has usually gone something like this:
Start with even initiative
Turn 1:
Drop a one-drop, it doesn't really matter which one it is, but Lois is usually preferred to start the game.
Turn 2:
Play a two-drop, once again it doesn't matter who it is, but Timer Wolf is a waste to play this early, but if he's all you got he's all you got. If you are able to do so, you should probably team-up here, but it really isn't necessary to do it until turn 5.
Turn 3:
Continue with your curve and try to hold out as best you can.
Turn 4:
Here is where things should get interesting. You want to get as many cosmic characters onto the field as possible. My normal turn 4 usually sees Timber Wolf, Element Lad, Triad, and Kid Quantum all hitting the field. This should go with the 3 drop you already had on the field. Team Attack and try to get as much of their board down as you can without depleting your forces to much. Hopefully you'll be able to go into the next round with at least 4 characters still standing.
Turn 5:
Superman, Blue makes his appearance. You'll want to stun their five drop if you're able and if you have a Super Speed and two Many Worlds you can get a free stun on their four drop as well.
Turn 6:
Bring out Cosmic Boy and give Superman his cosmic counter back, through more Super Speeds and Solar Powered's you can hopefully use Superman's ability multiple times again. Then you can flip Kandor if you have it and swing away.
Turn 7:
Bring out the Eradicator if it goes this far.
Like I said above my end game is very fragile and it is very hard to get all the pieces I need to get this to work how I want it too. I am really thinking of fitting in birthing chamber in there and maybe more Kandor's or replacing Kandor for Kent Farm for my finishing move (I've found in my testing that Kandor is awesome in this deck, but Kent Farm might help me end the game sooner). Any and all replies are most welcome
Thanks for the input JVIRTUE55. I have considered the Legion HQ because it seems like such a great fit, but I ended up using many worlds instead because I could eat up a counter and replace it in the same turn and I can't with the HQ, but I will switch them out today and give them a try and see which I like better.
I had also considered Star Boy, but his ability only works in the recovery phase which really limits his usefulness.
THE TUNING FORK! I can't believe it didn't occur to me, you're the man! I'll post version 2.0 after some tweaking.
What about this guy to make sure you can team up (more superman characters)
2 drop
Professor Emil Hamilton, Garrulous Genius
Team: Team Superman
Discard a Team Superman character card -> Put a cosmic counter on target cosmic character you control. Use only once per turn
The legion headquarters with the cosmic surge characters works great
on turn 5 or 6 do you have enough of a board presence to play Press the attack?
I was considering Hamilton in place of Kelex because location search isn't too important to the deck. He's going to get a tryout too in place of the robot.
Press would be the bizomb, and I have enough guys to use it, the problem is I don't have a reliable way to exhaust them on turn 5 to use it. It is especially hard because I prefer to have even initiative so I can control the board better going into turn 5 to make sure I have enough guys to make good use of Blue and I can sort of do an initiative steal if my opponent is curving out and I can get a couple of them. If you've got an idea for tiring out guys I would love to hear it because I couldn't come up with any without diluting the deck to much.
With the Tunning Fork you are going to want Kelix now to search for it
Well here is one and I will list more
Token Resistance
Ongoing
Ongoing: Exhaust a character you control that is protecting a character -> Target character gets -1 ATK this turn.
"I've heard of wading through the enemy, but . . ."
That one is crappy so is this one
Man-Bull, William Taurens
Team: Sinister Syndicate
Exhaust a character you control -> Man-Bull gets +1 ATK this turn.
Exhausted characters you control can't be stunned by or targeted by effects from non-ongoing plot twists your opponents control.
"Mooooooo!"
hmm im not sure what u could use that wouldnt dull down the deck
Thanks again for all your input JVIRTUE55, here's what I have done to the deck so far. I haven't had a chance to test my changes yet, but here we go:
2 X Lois Lane, Earth 2
4 X Kid Quantum
3 X Kelex
3 X Superman, Blue
1 X Cosmic Boy
1 X Eradicator, Soul of Krypton
3 X Timber Wolf
2 X Element Lad
1 X Bouncing Boy
1 X Sensor
3 X Triad
2 X XS
2 X Shrinking Violet
1 X Dream Girl
1 X Ferro Lad
1 X Superman, Red
4 X Super Speed
4 X Past, Present, and Future
4 X Many Worlds
3 X Solar Powered
4 X New Recruits
4 X Mega Blast
2 X 31st Century Metropolis
1 X Science Police HQ
1 X Kandor
2 X Cosmic Tuning Fork
With the additions of the Tuning Forks I have increased the number of Kelex's. I also added in one copy of Superman, Red to give me another search for Lois if I draw into Blue. I also removed the two copies of Man of Tomorrow because I should be able to get my Superman, Blue using either New Recruits, Lois, or the Tuning Fork.
I gave the Legion Headquarters a try, but I did not find it as good as Many Worlds simply because of it's activate restriction, meaning I can't put a counter on it and then onto Blue in the same turn which I can with Many Worlds.
I'll let you know how this newest version works out!
