hello all,i'm on leave from us army iraq, been away from the game awhile and am trying to get some vs.games going here...but need some help on a couple things
1.mr.mxy 5th dimension-i understand he goes back to my hand if he's attacked but does the attacker have to exhaust his guy to make it happen or does he just ready?
2.bizarro ray-its says "this attack"does that mean i have to atatck with a guy to stun my opponent?or for intance if i have 2 of them out can i "auto-stun"their 1-drop with 2 defense by paying 2 endurance?or do i have to initiate an attack to use it?
thanks for any support guys, bear with me if i have any more questions
Taken from the DSM FAQ.
Mr. Mxyzptlk, Fifth Dimension Imp
Character, Revenge Squad, 2
1 ATK/1 DEF
Flight, Range
Mr. Mxyzptlk costs you 1 less to recruit for each Revenge Squad character you control.
Mr. Mxyzptlk cannot be stunned.
Whenever Mr. Mxyzptlk is attacked, return him to owner's hand.
The character attacking Mr. Mxyzptlk will usually ready. Mr. Mxyzptlk cannot be stunned by any effect at any time generated from any source, or by the rules of the game.
Mr. Mxyzptlk’s cost can never be reduced below 0.
You can’t pay a cost that requires you to stun a character with Mr. Mxyzptlk
For Bizarro Ray, you have to be attacking, to use the effect.
1) Every attack goes to conclusion, and attack conclusion can only occur when both players pass on an empty chain. Different things can happen during the conclusion, but how it comes about is always the same.
If there is a defender and at least one attacker, do the normal ATK/DEF comparisons. If there is at least one attacker, but no defender, then all attackers ready. If there are no attackers, do nothing.
A character loses the attacker and defender characteristics as part of leaving play, so Mr. Mxyzptlk is not a defender anymore when the attack concludes. As a result, the attacker readies. The main other ways to remove an attacker or defender from an attack are to stun him, or to play an effect which tells you explicitly to remove him. But in any case, don't ready any of the characters involved unless either a card tells you to, like Teleport Tube, or the does it for you during attack conclusion.
2) If an effect has a duration of "this attack," that is both a description of how long its modifier lasts, and also a restriction on when you can play it. You're right that because it lasts for "this attack," you can't play it when there isn't an attack going on.
But more importantly for Bizarro Ray is the phrase "target defender." Any time you see a phrase with the word "target," you should pay extra attention to that targeting phrase. It means that the effect targets, and you can never play it unless you're unable to legally pick a target for it; in other words, you just have to be able to pick someone who fits the descripton.. You must be able to target a defender in order to use Bizarro Ray, which is a second reason that you can't use it outside of an attack. Or, for that matter, to hit characters who aren't the defender.
