When we play Mini-master, any search effects are replaced by drawing a card. You still have to pay any costs involved and any other effects still occur but instead of searching for a card, you simply draw.
How would this translate to a Constructed format?
Ahmed would not be as good but he needs some neutering every now and then anyways. Enemy would basically be discard a character card, draw a card... etc etc.
Decks would be become less consistent but you would still be able to smooth out your draws and it would add that missing "luck-factor" that seems to be the magnet for the casual player.
while its great for mini-master, because well who knows whats in there. I don't think it has a place in constructed decks. It would compleatly take the point out of search cards, you wouldn't be searching.
The point is to level the field a bit. If everyone had to rely on top-decking it could make the game more interesting. One of the problems of course is this will favor some archetypes over others... but that's always going to happen in any alternative format.
That's basically what this format does... except it allows you to play your decks as they are constructed and adds the aspect of draw instead of search... you still need some consistency help if you're are going to get rid of searching.
And I guess in light of Lex-3, it should be "may draw a card" instead of searching.
My tournaments(the ones I hold in the basement with my stuffed animals) are formatted in a completely opposite way. Instead of drawing a card, you search your deck for any card and put it into your hand. There is a lot more thinking involved.
