im going to teach someone how to play and am building some decks to help him do so. i was thinking that 40 card decks might be the best way to get started. one, so that search wont be as important to the deck; two i dont have a ton of cards (most from just drafting). is this a good or bad idea?
he expressed his interest in moon knight and the green lanterns. so those are the two decks ill build first (he also mentioned batman but my box of dwf only had 35 teamstamped gotham knights cards). for the moon knight deck i was going to focus on the mtu version and using soul survival, to teach him about board presence and the goodness of stat modifiers. for the green lantern deck im going to need more help. i never played much from the set but i do have some of the cards.
im going to make the decks up tonight and wanted to get some imput from some people on directions for the decks, keeping in mind that it is for a new player.
Dual Affiliated characters seem like a really hard thing to teach some one first.
Have you considered marvel knights?
The 10/7 one that they have is awsome.
MXM Black panther on 3 with equip.
2 Shang Chi or Blade from MTU
6 Luke Cage from MMK
cant think of a good 5 other than DD from MMK
Thoughts?
If he wants to get into that the cards are cheap.
and Marvel Legends also has MMK
thanks for the idea. unfortunately i dont have any cards from mmk. i thought that it mighty be a bit too much, with backup, substitute and dual loyalty. i think that he'll stick trough it, but you are right that it make make it a bit more daunting at the start.
cards for a GL deck (I guess a basic aggro/recovery deck):
5 drop Guy Gardener and 7 drop Guy Gardener
light armors
chopping block
birthing chamber
1 drop g'nort
2 drop Kyle Raynor
3 drop Tomar-re
4 drop rot-lop-fan, John Stewart
5 drop Hal Jordan
6 drop Sinestro - r
breaking ground - r
a recovery card (can't remember the name)
Oa - r
I'm sure there is other stuff you could use but this is just a trainer, right? These should get you going onto a GL build.
1 drop g'nort (2) Arisia, Green Lantern of Graxos IV (2)
2 Tomar Tu, Green Lantern of Xudar (4) and Kyle (4) Olapet (2)
3 Hal Jordan, Green Lantern of Earth (4)
4 Jade, Emerald Beacon (4) Oliver Queen (2)
5 Guy Gardner, Strong Arm of the Corps (4)
6 Hal Jordan, Hard-Traveling Hero (4)
That is my recommended curve.
Don't put in Chopping block.
That is not cool while you are learning.
You can ignore breaking ground. You want to show off what the teams can do not break other decks plans.
Lantern is love is good as is Guardians Reborn.
Reciting the Oath?
Uppercut.
cool thanks for the ideas. i looked at my green lantern stash and its pretty low, it looks like i have most of your curve minus the rares, but its cool. ill try to put up a build tonight.
