Yea, I recently added this to my X-Mental deck, and it is crazy good. Every match-up I've tested there seems to be at least one character that it really helps against. Of course, being able to flip it back down with Emma and reuse it again on the next turn is even better.
when i first read the card I was impressed. When i played with the card it was dead in my hand. It sucks. what keywords are worth taking away during the combat phase?evasion might be the only one. all good key words are substitute, back up, will power. they all work outside the combat phase. So what if they don't have powers either. Most players will wait till you try to play only human and respond to it. if it's an activating burn lets say they will use it before combat. lastly losing flight isn't that big of a deal. there are a few cards that can work around that like monkey business. it's a wasted rare.
I've been hosed by it once or twice. Losing Grodd's ability when you're getting ready to steal a 4-drop with a metric crapton of equipment kinda sucks.

It removes the effects also. Cards like: Rogue (both 4 drops), Batman, Ruin, Characters that Ready themselves during combat, a lot of things, not just keywords. There are A LOT of cards, especially if you play control.

Au contraire, mon frère. There are quite a few characters with powerful effects that trigger in the combat phase or when they are in combat.
For example, the other night I was testing X-Mental against Good Guys. Only Human negated Katar Hol's ability to give everyone an extra +2 ATK when powering up and swinging up the curve, and got rid of his +1/+1 for being equipped. Instead of being 11 ATK after his first power-up, he was an 8. Trust me, Good Guys without Katar Hol's Ally abilities is Mediocre Guys.
Consider the Checkmate/Villains match-up. The hardest thing to deal with for a control deck is Deathstroke. Take away his Vengeance ability, and he's just an undersized 7 drop. Characters with KO abilities like Punisher 4 and Divinity and Fatality are all neutered. Colonel Yon-Rogg, worthless. Quicksilver can only attack once. As someone else said, Juggernaut 7 doesn't KO any of your resources. Aquaman doesn't get to return any cards from the KO pile. The list goes on and on.
This is not a 4-of card for every deck. This is good to have 1 or 2 of in a control deck that has a way to search for it.
Well, of the top of my head, I was thinking (and some of this is old school thinking mind you), it hoses Magneto - MoM (but only if you have recovery during the combat phase, mostly I thought of this because I play X-men), Doom - DG, Sinestro 6, Nimrod, the new beatstick Elektra, a non-cloaked Quickie, that new ridiculous Punisher, and just tons of other stuff.
I like it has no effect on the no-cost Superman though.
what are you talking about?
it takes away his flight!
that, like, practically makes him useless! :cheeky:
Hey, don't laugh too hard. Just tonight, someone played Only Human against me after I had played Flying Kick on one of my guys, and it completely messed me up that turn. He had 3 characters formed in an L, while I had two attackers, and it took away my ability to break up his formation with my initial attack.

I'm confused it doesn't take away card text. So when its says loses powers doesn't that men payment powers. not triggered effects or are they the same thing
Like the name implies, payment powers are just one type; there are payment powers, triggered powers, and continuous powers. When we're talking about characters, everything that's written in the text box is going to be either a keyword or a power (or both). If it has an arrow, it's a payment power. If it starts with one of the trigger phrases---when, whenever, at the start of---then it's a triggered power. And every power that doesn't fit into one of those two labels is a continuous power.
Effects, on the other hands, are only ever on the chain. Text/powers can generate effects, but they aren't effects themselves. And continuous powers, since they don't use the chain, also don't generate effects.
