After much discussion with a friend today about the World Championship we came to the conclusion that if you have to qualfy by having 10 pc points that attendance may be extremly low.

1 reason there are very few venues that give pc points. Making it too hard to qualify.

We discussed several options:

Couldn't more events give out pc points? Maybe makeing ude points count for qualifying. Why couldn't it be probable to have an open worlds or even a buy in like in the world series of poker. As long as we have a gen con badge & maybe pay an attendace fee. Then maybe pay the top 8 players whatever money accumalted by the attendance fee. Or maybe even say this year if you have any pc points you can qualify. Whatever the case something needs to be done about this issue.

Then we wondered why they would give out cool prizes instead of cash? Instead of giving an Ipod why not give $400.00?

I am fine without haveing cash prizes & almost prefer it but it does make me wonder. Maybe Ude gets some kind of deal on I-pods & I know I know I know prizes haven't been confirmed yet.

Please UDe don't give the winner of worlds some card that nobody else will ever have a copy of. If the guy who wins worlds gets some broke superman search & nobody else can get it I swear I'll quit this game. Keep'em beatdowns!!!! My friends & I think these exclusive promo cards are awful. They are just too exclusive & they don't make it easy for newer players to want to get into versus. All of us are fine with them being foils but those cards need to come out in a non foil version maybe in a playable starter deck.

These issues are just alienateing too many players who are makeing descions to hop ship to another game.

Lastly, i haven't heard any complaints about the design of versus from anyone. Versus imho is better now then it has ever been!!!

This game is constantly refered to as the best game ever made!!!

One friend of mine said to me that the Worlds Finest deck is exactly how versus should be. Playing cards of your favorite superheros. This legend stuff is brillant.

You guys @ Ude may not realize how much so many of us appreciate what you do every day. I for one do & gladly willing support you & my local hobby shop. I look forward to playing for the years to come.

I think you can have a ratings qualification. Back then if you have a rating of 2700 you were qualified. Last PC I think they lowered it to 2650. I'm sure this will be the case.

Then if this is soo it should be announced!

It was announced that you could get into pc's on rating back when they ended PCQ's. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe they that when they announced worlds they announced that it would be the same way.

On the subject of electronics as prizes vs. cash. Cash is cash. a million bucks costs a million bucks. no skirting that. an I pod can be purchased for a different amount depending on a number of circumstances. Many of which do not in any way devalue the I pod. It's just smart business. You might even be able to get Apple to give them to you as a promotional item.

I'd actually consider having an iPod if it had, say, Magneto art on it.

Again how does that help newer players? Or If you don't have a good rateing or not a rateing at all?

We still need more venues were people can attain points. This doesn't mean we have to have more tournaments just more points given out. Or have an open world championship.

The world championship needs to be a bit difficult to get into, thats the idea of it.

If your a new players you probably shouldn't be attending an event of that level.

If the event didn't have a good enough prize then noone would fly to the location to play.

Most players won't spend all that money if there is no prize for them to try to win or if the prize is not that good.

The worlds event is still some time away so new players still have time to play at event and increase their sealed or constructed rating.

I am pretty sure they will offer rating invites so just play and do well at local events till then.

some cards need to be somewhat hard to get, of every card was easy to get then they would all be worthless and then the game would do badly. also these cards are not that playable so it doesnt mess up alot of players decks.

The problem with Vs being exclusive is that the game needs to promote to new players. So having a tournament with such exlusiveness would be a bad move. New players want to play, but if the better players are just big black holes then new players will leave the game. The mistake was already made, why would we go back and do the same thing? Are we as dumb as the Germans in both World Wars?

I saw a commerical for Capital One credit card where you could upload any pic to be put on that card. I was thinking of maybe something VS but there's so much to choose from :p

So in the first Pc their were many people that qualified that had never won a pcq. Kyle dembinski got a in free for Pc Indy 2004 because he won worlds for Hero Clixs a year prior.

The real pros have already been alienated because of the lack of prize money.

If Ude does what you are suggesting then Worlds will have a very low attendance. While I agree what you are saying maybe for 2009 or 2010 we cannot be exclusive this year & expect decent attendance.

Last year I went to Indy & then an elite series in Lincoln nebraska in October & the last Pcq we had was in March 2007.

the year before I went to almost every 10k, circuit. I also went to pcq @ least once a month giving myself & my friends numerous times to qualify.

Luckily I qualified for Indy 07 in March but most of my friends here in Topeka did not because of lack of events that allowed others to qualifiy. I gurantee you if Ude would have had more ways to qualify many more people would have attended pro circuit Indy 07.

Rateings are not going to help anyone guys. Especially if your in a group were everyones rateing is low.

i like the idea of a rare card for top 8 and top 16 and a special card for first place.
ONE card does not give you a gigantic advantage over a oppenent odds are in most games youll never draw it anyway but its cool to have, when dbz did it it was fun most the time i just sold mine off anyway

Yes & look at what happened to Dbz. Warlord is another game that did these uber exclusive cards & it alienates players from staying in the game.

that's something I worry about with VS. MAA, MEX, DCX, etc. DBZ had WAY too many promos. At least VS don't have as many erratas as DBZ ;)

do you think it would be alright to go back to EAs for top cut like we originally had in PCQs (as opposed to a 'new rare' top X card)?
