Soshi Kenpachi introduced the Roundtable to something that I had never heard of before: the Wounded Warriors Project.
This is an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for those that put their lives on the line for the freedoms of the world as well as their families. When a soldier is injured in the line of duty, he isn't the only one hurt by it. His family, too, will need help and that is the primary ppoint behind this brilliant program.
The point of this thread is to start something BIG. This project is well deserving of some attention and lots of it.
What I am proposing is that for the month of May, all across the country of the United States, as well as anywhere else in the world that wants to participate, a series of tournaments be held where the proceeds are all donated to this heart warming cause.
With just a $5.00 entry fee for each event, and an average of 8 players per event, and an average of 3 game stores per state, we are looking at being able to generate around $6000.00 worth of a donation in the name of VS, VSrealms, or whatever we wanted to call it. That might not be a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it is definitely worthy of the effort.
I'd love it if UDE could get behind this kind of plan and provide special Captain America cards for all entrants and some kind of special award prize for first place or something, to make this worth the time of the players that don't already know how important this is.
Feel free to post your thoughts here and suggestions for keeping this plan in motion. We have a little under a month to get this in full swing. Can we accomplish this in such a small amount of time?
Great idea but wouldn't UDE need to design, test & print prize cards & would this be able to happen in under a month with your suggested timetable of May?
What if UDE had EAs already planned for something else that they could parlay in to this as well?
Again, I'll point to Captain America, being THE SUPER SOLDIER. Hell, they could even just dump a pile of Captain Americas as attendance awards or some such I'm certain. Not even needing them to be EAs.
The idea is to get something organized and accomplished in less than 30 days.
I'll organize something for at least 2 spots in the Bay Area and talk to some of the shop keepers and see how they feel about supporting this. Stores can donate in their own names for the advertising benefits should they choose to, or they names of the shops that participate can be listed together on UDE.com or something.
I just think Soshi Kenpachi was on to something with this program he ran in to and I think VS can get a good headstart by getting involved in something like this.
I would play if one is held in my area but again I think IF you want UDE to produce something special to use as prize support & UDE agrees, they would need more time for R&D, printing & distribution than your plan gives.
I don't think that's it Tchalla. I think more like it's going to take people time to get around to organizing and the idea to get going. The thread is onry 24 hours old. Anyway, some things to note:
I'm taking donations that are going to be auctioned off on the realms at the end of May. The proceeds are going to be sent in to the WWP as a donation from the Vs Realms Players. Anyone wanting to host a WWP Charity tourney, PM me and I'll keep a running List of where the Tourneys are so anyone willing can participate.
The donations are going to be sent in Memorial Day weekend, and I really dig this charity(I'm biased. Two of my brothers are going to be over there by the end of the year) so anyone who wants to help, be it through running a Charity tourney or donating cards for the auction would be much appreciated.
I think it's appropriate given the prominence of Captain America in MUN
