Although I'll likely be buying singles of MUN later on in the year, I've bought boxes in the past as I never 100% know what I want to build when a set's released. By having a number of the Commons/Uncommons and a few Rares for every team, I've got the base of a deck there, and can buy the remaining cards as needed.
When a set first comes out, I rather get a box than look online for singles. Why? So I can trade amongst friends, start building decks on that day, have a good idea what team strategies are, maybe even team-up two almost opposite teams in a janky way that ends with hilarious results.
In other words, getting a box has more of a social appeal, and if I have the money, I rather spend some times with my friends cracking open packs while making small talk along the way. Just going online getting singles usually is the smarter way to get certain cards, but I cannot deny the joy of just opening packs, seeing what I get and have a blast with some buddies.
i like to trade...to get the cards i want...and i dont know what i want to build until i try them all out...and i like that feeling of getting lucky and pulling some sweet rare x3 or 4 times in a box
Because there are possibly better odds (never know if they change collation) of pulling the common/uc sets in a box as opposed to single packs. Now a case, just because I have the money and it makes worlds prep easier! :)
I use to buy boxes back in the day but with the limited printing UDE is doing for Vs now I will NEVER buy a box from here on out unless the price goes back down to like $60 a box. I refuse to pay $100+ for a box of cards. Sorry isn't happening. Of course I won't even pay for singles from MVL or DCL as they are so ridiculously priced because of the limited print. The only way I get MVL or newer cards is by trading or playing Sealed.

Either way, I buy boxes. I like collecting the cards and the sets, which means I want the commons and uncommons. Also, I am not a great deckbuilder, so after I build a deck, I may want to swap something out for something else. It is easy to do if I have the cards scattered about or whatever, but not if I have to buy them online. Plus, draft and sealed are awesome and I get to practice building with them.
You guys do know that $60 a box is not much higher than wholesale.
It's when VS sells for higher than that which causes this perception of "limited" printing... it's not just a smaller print run... it's the fact that the cards are worth more so more people will buy sealed product... supply and demand.
Well I have been able to find some MUN pre-orders on Ebay for $55 + Shipping so I guess that isn't too bad, I actually might pick up one box. But I know that DCL and MVL are going for ridiculous amounts upward of the $100 + mark and at that point is where I will not buy the boxes.

I know I got spoiled getting my discounts on product, and I agree that I can't see my way to buying boxes for nearly double what I was used to paying.
But I am buying half a case since I'm selling my entire GI Joe collection. The toys, not the cards. Those I'm keeping. Still looking for a series one Zartan card as a matter of fact.
A - Drafting/Sealed play
B - Obsessive nature ... wanting to collect it 'all'
C - Unable to decide on which team to play / Wanting the option to play just about anything
D - Being the guy that everyone borrows stuff from means that even stuff I don't play I'll probably need
E - Having very few people to trade with, ultimately, instead of chasing down every single I want, it makes the eventual break down to buy singles a bit less daunting as I only need so many
F - Want it now syndrome ...
