I used to play quite often using OCTGN, but changed my OS to Linux (Ubuntu to be precise) a few months ago. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck playing Vs or other card games online through Linux. If so, what program were you using (MWS, OCTGN, something else)? I'd love to hear from anyone with experience here.
MWS runs fine using Wine, but I haven't actually tried playing a game online, as everyone I know uses OCTGN.
The latest version of OCTGN, unfortunately, won't work at all using Wine. I've put in a lot of time trying to figure it out, so if you can figure it out, let me know. I'm hoping version 2 will work, but it could be a while before it's ready, and I'm not even 100% sure it will support VS.
So your are left with a choice to dual-boot Windows, or run windows using something like VMWare.
Well that's a little disappointing to hear, but thanks for the info. I do have a windows machine in the works, so I guess I can always play on that. :)
if its any plus, you can use office once you install parallels, unless you're using open office. I received a copy of office from my school, so I've been using that. I'm sure there are other uses too, and it's what, 30 bucks? Just saying installing parallels wouldn't be THAT bad, if things came down to it. Hope something works out.
I already have Power Point, Words and Excel. Macs are very smart computers :) . But I have them because of work issues since everybody seems to use those programs. But putting Windows in my MAC is sacrilegious, thats the whole reason I got a MAC, to get away from Windows. Guess that if I can't hold the urge to play I will get parallels. :(
I've had no luck running MWS or OCTGN with wine on my Ubuntu (Linux) machine. I don't mind really since I have a Windows PC as well. Thanks for all the info.
