Power Dampeners
Play only if you control a [S.H.I.E.L.D. Icon] character.
Equip only to an opposing character.

Equipped character loses and can't have non-activated powers.


What exactly is a power? Is that any game text (other than activated powers, obviously)? Does that affect keywords, or or they not "powers"?

Powers are anything represented in the character's text box. This doesn't include Keywords, to some extent. I believe Spud and I had a thread on this a little while back.

Spud and I back and forth a bit and end up clarifying just what it does to Keywords.

All in-game text that isn't keywords. So, Dampeners leave two things standing: keywords, and activated powers.

As stated before, it leaves the actual keyword standing, but when the keyword is tied to text, such as Cosmic, Leader, Vengeance, the keyword stays, but all the affiliated text after it disappears (assuming it's non-activated), leaving you with a useless Bold word.

This may be a dumb question but, a character equipped with Power Dampeners has the Keyword Willpower, but does said character retain it's value? I mean, is that just another stat, like ATK & DEF?

He will keep the Willpower value.

The only way Power Dampeners touches Keywords is if there is non-bold, non-italicised text attached to the keyword.

Example:

Willpower: 2
Power Dampeners does nothing.

Leader: Adjacent characters get +1/+1.
Power dampeners will shut down the "Adjacent characters..." text, but leave Leader: alone. This card will still be recognized as a Leader card.

Evasion (Stun this character -> Recover this character at the start of the recovery phase this turn.)
Power Dampeners doesn't touch italicised text, since it's just there as an addition explanation of what the Keyword actually does.

That's what I assumed, just wanted to be sure.
