Reveal Speed from your hand {>} If you control an [Avengers] team attacker, put Speed into play exhausted and team attacking if you haven't controlled a character named Speed this attack. Whenever Speed stuns a defender, return Speed to his owner's hand.
So my question is that if Speed takes part in a team attack by dropping him in the middle of a declared team attack to assist, lets say, my 2 and 3 drop, during resolution, can my opponent choose to stun speed back instead of my 2 or 3 drop? If my opponent can stun him, does Speed still return to my hand once the smoke clears?

It's actually important that you include a line break in Speed's text---he has two powers, with each one represented by its own paragraph. If you merge them into a single paragraph, it would make the "whenever" text part of the payment power---that'd mean he only bounced if he'd been brought in by the power.
By keeping his two paragraphs separate, you ensure that he bounces properly, regardless of how he was put into play. You also make sure that a card like Mr. Sinister applies to his second power.

Once he's in play, Speed is exactly like any other team attacker. The opponent can certainly compare the defender's ATK against Speed's DEF.

Yes. Powers that trigger off of stuns trigger based on the moment right before the stun occurs. For the same reason, Batman's double-burn power triggers even if Batman mutual stuns. To take just one example.
Quote
502.4 Triggered powers that trigger off an object becoming stunned, leaving play, or causing breakthrough look back to the game state at the moment right before the object became stunned, left play, or caused breakthrough. This information is used to determine whether they could have triggered off that event and whether they did.

So if I recruit him "normally" and he stuns a defender he returns to my hand.
Thanks HC, I figured just as much but its great to be able to get confirmation from the head honcho. Debates tend to end at my table when I say "Herocomplex said..."

Thank you Hero, we never really check for the whenever part of this card's power at my HL and a couple of players actually run this guy alot. I will be paying attention alot more...

See that's funny that's how most of our arguments begin.
