Our local comic store had a Star Wars event a few years back. The interesting thing was that this was years after the card game was abandoned. They had a good 15-20 people show up and 90% of them were from out of town.
Gonna keep playing casually with all the NorCal people.
Because we love us some VS's.
And then for my main game I'll play YGO, cuz I have some decent cards lying around
But on a serious note- Honestly, I know you've already stated that you don't want this game to end, but its thread like this that are keeping me from coming on the boards more regularly nowadays. I know I'm not making it any better by not starting any constructive threads, but c'mon man.
Ah... actually I'm a very hopeful that this game will keep being produced into the next year (at least), but everywhere I turn I have others spreading their "reality" into mine. At this point I feel that the game really is on an even path, but others think since there is no news yet of another set or tournament that it's completely over. No one thought the game would still get produced this long with out big money tournaments. No one thought that Civil War and the two sets previous would sell out (which they did). Yes UDE seems to have placed less focus in many areas on this game (which we knew since they told us a year and a half ago and considering the current economic atmosphere) and that's why everyone is up in arms. I'm just being silly with this thread making fun of those who have counted this game out before it's even out. There's reality and then there's pessimism. I really feel it's not over until the fat lady has sung. Anyone who wants to complain that UDE has somehow wronged them... UDE has produced a game far past what they normally would schedule for when it comes to not making the standards they would like. Just the fact that we were able to have a couple of Mega Weekends this past year, a world championship, and the production of news sets and cards for hobby league is good enough in my book. Everyone is clamoring for an "anouncement"... it's the holidays! This is a very busy time of year for ALL companies besides the fact that UDE MUST be going through some kind of restructuring of personnel and finances towards their products and overall business due in part to these very difficult economic times... and people expect some kind of announcement or they think the game is done. I'm just giving them what they want.
There is always a very slim chance that a game company who is smaller than UDE, with smaller sales expectations could move in and try to buy the rights to the game and work out new licensing deals with Marvel/DC/whoever. A similar thing just happened with UFS back in the Spring where Sabretooth Games sold the rights to Fantasy Flight Games. While UFS was never as popular as VS was and neither Sabretooth Games or FFG is as big as UDE, that doesn't mean that an opening might not present itself for a smaller game company akin to FFG, who is looking to start making a little headway into the TCG market, might take a chance on VS if the price is right. I mean the game can be maintained with a very small R&D group (as evidenced by the last 3 or 4 VS sets), there is a fan base already (even if it was not as big as before), and with comic book inspired movies coming out many times a year they could get good buzz off piggybacking those movies if they released sets with characters featured in those movies around the movie release.
Anyway, just food for thought and maybe a big of wishful thinking.
The biggest problem with a SaveClix-type company is the licensing for Marvel and DC is quite expensive. DC alone is quite high.
That's why I'm not sure how well the SaveClix thing will do but people here have posted the licensing costs are included with Clix which I'm not absolutely convinced about since those type of transfers don't happen without some legalese hurdles.
In addition, as I've stated before, UDE usually does not sell/license its intellectual property (ie. the VS System game engine) so that's another hurdle.
