So, in preparation for BYOTT I made a Morlocks/Secret Society deck. It was working ok, but it was missing something, and I figured it wouldn't hold its own against some other BYOTT decks.
5 days before, were building some simple mono-decks. I am playing with Kree for the first time ... ever, and admittedly I started to enjoy it. So, I figured, why not?
So, I started to think what was in Kree/VU. If I am being honest, I think I would have ran it, if I wasn't so lazy. I got bored after the Calculator and Baddest of the Bad.
I began to think, and the only thing I wanted to add to the deck was some more blanket pumps.
Bingo.
So, after about...literally 11 seconds, I adjusted the deck to look like this.

Ares? - He ends the game. The Kree characters that cost six are utter, utter, UTTER gash.
Only 1 Stargate? - I own none, and only have access to one.
Only 1 Yon-Rogg - See above.
Remnant Fleet? - Mass returnage. I chose this over Strategic Retreat, because I don't lose ALL my board.
Starforce Strike? - I can't afford to power-up a lot of the time, and this serves as a decent stunback card.
So we get to Patriot Games, and I buy what turn out to be, the worst sleeves ever. Two packs of 50 for a £1 each.
I sleeve up, and have a casual game against chew.
Pre-Game - Chew - BYOTT MK/Thunderbolts Rush.
This game, is a wierd match-up for this deck. It is an extreme 50-50 shot. By that, I mean in this deck you lose a LOT, early. Like 20/30 by turn 4. Turn 5 rolls around and he stuggles a bit, so do I. I pull off a turn 6 win, just.
Sleeve number one dies...
Matt comes over, tells me that there is lots of pressure on my shoulders. As in L'bro and Sheffield I X-0'd and I had a title to defend. As though I wasn't nervous enough having only played the deck twice before...
The pairings are announced, Me vs Chew...
...of course...

Round 1 - Chew - BYOTT MK/TBolts Rush.
I get lucky, I draw pipe. He, does not. His draw is too standard curve-eating. Playing an all concealed board except a turn 2 Beetle. Against any other deck, it is a good draw for him. This deck? Not so much.

Decent start, though I know a hidden board may not be the best way to judge how I may do from here on in.
-----------------------------------
Round 2 - Rich - BYOTT Underworld/Hellfire Club
I was nosying over and peeping on Rich's game with Rob. I notice he has at least 3 Blackhearts in there, so am on the lookout. He plays a turn 1 Courtney Ross. This, makes me sad. Though I know she won't be dealing me any damage for fear of stunback. Every cloud ...
I play a decent press curve turns on turns 4 and 6, where as turn 5 only brought me one character, being shatterax. He underdrops on 5, making my happy in pants.
Magneto(using Narti'rh) stunned a 10/3 Dylon Cir, makes me sad in pants. With only one visible character, and some stunned hidden characters (with Korath) He then has to smack his way back through 5 non-stunned characters.

Ok, another hidden board. Is hidden a really good match-up? Was I lucky? Is this a good deck? My mild lack of a 5 drop, makes me start to wish I tried to get another Stargate.
-----------------------------------
Round 3 - Matt - Inhumans/X-Men
What? Yeah...That's what I thought. Inhumans/X-Men? He plays the standard Lockjaw, San, Crystal getting Extended Family and Attilan. I begin to wonder whether there are any X-Men in there at all.
Turn 4, he tells me he should have gotten Great Refuge over Attilan, as he underdrops with Wolverine, Logan. This turn, he flips Xavier's Institute of Higher Learning...he also uses Turnabout from his row. Then explains, the X-Men are there because they have loads of sick pumps that can be used whenever if need be.
Turn 5, instead of him playing the revealed Karnak(with Wolverine) he plays Gambit, Remy LeBeau ... I hate him. I have been raped by him many-a-time in tournements.
Turn 6, he plays Quicksilver, and only has a maximum of 5 attacks after Bron Char nuked San. To my 7 characters, 6 after I flip the Helicarrier after a Blue Area of the Moon Activation. A Live Kree ... or Die! gets me the stun back on Quicksilvers first attack, and after some thought. He realizes he couldn't win.

The lack of turnabout was a releif for me. Only one, all game. Plus, Kona Lor and Dylon Cir made this match-up a little bit more winnable. Security Clearance in response to Clumsy Foulup bouncing, getting the Helicarrier rules. I replace a second split sleeve...
-----------------------------------
Round 4 - Andy - TBolts/LoA
I have seen Radioactive Man get to 16/15 in another game, so I am a little worried. After some 7 seconds of deep thought, I realised I don't have many plot twists in the deck. It turns out it doesn't matter when you draw the poo. The plot twists that would redeemed the draw, all cost 6+, and on turn 3/4 even the Thunderbolts Mountain would struggle with that.
I cannot stress how much I lost this game, it was probably the biggest spanking I have had in a long time. It was turn 5 when I gave in, and I think he was at around 38/39.

So, did I get over confident at 3 - 0? Did my spontaneous cold catch up with me? Could I ever have won that match-up? Am I over thinking this?.... I try to put it out of my head, and aim for 2-3 place, knowing that Andy would X-0.
-----------------------------------
Round 5 - Justin - Inhumans/Skrull
I was told by Helen that it was brutal. I was a little sceptical to be honest, as they don't have many pumps between them.
I mulligan. ####! This is even worse that my original 4! Turn one rolls around, and Minerva shows up with Foulup...phew. He plays Franklin on 2, and allows Minerva to attack to the dome. Franklin hides Wolverine on 3...I am worried about how fast he can kill me. On three, I can't replay Minerva, and am stuck with Dylon Cir, and have little cards in my hand.
On turn 4, I press to Yon-Rogg, to his nothing. Getting shut of wolvies counter helped me a lot this turn.
Turn 5, he plays Paibok, to my Bron Char. Oh turd, Paibok is good. I do get shut of Franklin after he throws Paibok into hiding. Turn 6, and I press too much for him. He can only muster a Ethan Edward and a Warskrull, who soon dies to Bron Char.
There is no way he is going to survive this turn, and he knew it.

I had a good time, I laughed, I coughed and I nearly screamed. I was pleased with my result, and was really pleased with how my deck and I performed. 4-1 was lot better than I expected to do, as Matt (Koopa182) is the deck man in Sheffield and builds some mad decks.
-----------------------------------
Results
I go over to see the result of Matt/Andy, and it already over. I try to peep at the board as Matt goes to put the score into the computer. I speak to Rob and Chew, the people in my group.
As it turns out, Rob (RD52169 - SecSoc/Underworld) went 3/2 losing by 3 endurance in both his losses, and Chew (Zombie Hedgehog) 2/3 in his games. Speaking to Chew, he tells me his draws weren't amazing. The games he drew well, he totally demolished the opponent.
I put my deck away... son of a ... I replace my 3rd split sleeve ...
So, the results are in... I am pre-occupied with Rob telling me how he thinks he could have 5-0'd, but messed up. It turns out that Andy must have lost to Matt, and due to tiebreakers. I win!
Yay! I walk away with 2x MUL Quicksilver and my 6+7th Origin Story trade bait with Owen (ozthemadma).
Cool report Limbo. It was a really good tournament.
Like Limbo said, when my deck worked it was really quite nasty. The games when I lost were quite close, it was just the game against Helen(?) when I took a real beating. I had a big Beetle in play that got Ko'd, I didn't really draw in to many characters, I had Thunderbolts Mountain that put 2 Collect them All in to my resource row 2 turns in a row so I couln't even search for anything, still a good game though.
u should know that quality sleeves work well, i have sleeves 5 years old that are still awasome! and limbo can agree....he keeps trying to steal them!! :P
