Myself and three of my friends just started playing and are really enjoying the game. We really like to play faction pure and play death match style.
I play ROTS and the other three play Davion, RD and Bannsons. One on one, I can beat everyone except my friend playing BR. It seems like whatever I do he can heal through. He likes to just sit in the back and let you come to him. my main problem is getting through his Behemoth II Tank. 5 click of armor piercing at 14 inches will cripple just about anything.
What are somethings I can do to get to and kill his healers?
Couple of questions for ya then. First, is he using the Bannson's Raiders faction pride? Secondly, does he have units with Repair he regularly uses?
IIRC, "Swan's" Pilot has the ability to add 2" to his ballistic attack against a single unit. Also, "Strumgief" has a 16" energy weapon that should be able to outreach his 14" units. However, I recommend putting a +2 attack pilot instead of his matching pilot so you can make sure you can sink a hit (even without his PPC cap, 5 damage will put open a wound you can exploit on the following turn). I also recommend adding the 16" Malice to your forces, too.
But in general, best way to make sure those Bannson's units die is to focus your fire on one unit at a time to get them - alot of their units don't have as long of a life span since they have no repair markers or their standard defense isn't as good (just becareful of decoy or camo, which some of their units have). If you have artillery, play that against him - most Bannson artillery just has lots of targets, but not alot of damage with a few exceptions.
Also, I asked about his use of the faction pride because that card (the one that give +1 click of repair per turn at roughly 1/450 points) puts him at a VC2 disadvantage, especially if you don't take a faction pride yourself. IMHO, the Republic (and their Highlander allies) are good at defensive turtling and if you don't play a pride, turtle (also because I have never really seen a turtling Bannson's player from experience). :) If you want to play a pride and he uses that self-heal pride, use True Grit to get that tool out of his hands.
Hopefully that'll give you a start in creating a strategy to defeat BUU forces. :)
Well, that Behemoth II and any repair vehicle can be neutralized rather efficiently by basing them with rapid infantry units. You might want to get your hands on a few more Scout ATVs for that. Mind you, your Solitaire 'Mech might come in handy for basing the Behemoth II as well. You see, that tank is unable to fire at enemy units within his 4" minimum range. And another thing: units based by the opponent's units cannot be repaired or perform repairs.
I am an avid BR player myself, and most of the advice above is solid. However, fighting any faction that sits and forces you to come to them is usually going to be tough. If you are using actions to get into range and gaining heat or push tokens and the enemy is not, unless you can hurt them a lot on that first attack you are going to be in trouble.
Here is what I would suggest to beat out BR in general. As they stated above basing the unit will prevent repair. Artillery will force them to move or take some damage. You can use some planetary conditions (Such as Heavy Fog) to reduce the range of the units so the 14" is not as dangerous. Another option would be to put some blocking terrain 3" off his deployment zone (the long skinny one or maybe the "H") and then get units with streak missiles behind and indirect fire them. If you are low on streak you can line units up behind the blocking and run some homing beacon units out for a tag fire. VTOLs also work well with blocking terrain and can let you mix in some armor piercing or pulse when needed.
We had a guy who used BR, they became my secondary faction for a while though I sort of later dropped them.
BR is all about the screen & heal.
With arty it becomes a lot harder to do so, you need to use arty(accurate arty) to screw up his repair tanks or force him to waste orders repairing his repair units.
You need range and something fast (a light mech would be best) to go in and harass him.
Before arty the BR guy we regularly played with was just about the best guy in our venue, as things progressed him and I were about tied (I play SW/CW, CJF and Davion)
It's been a while since you asked us for advice, Ratnest. Has your game progressed since then? Now I don't know about the rest of the MechWarrior aficionados around here, but I wouldn't mind reading your epic tales of glory or grim tales of heroic combat. Please tell!

Well my latest game, other than the small lunchtime battles we have, was a three person everyone man for himself battle.
I went with Cadaver 'Famine,' Gravedigger 'Pestilence' and my paladin defense system with some Centaur Battle Armors to assist.
One friend went with the Poseidon ares and the other with various melee-heavy bannsons.
First, I hate 3 persons battles because one person just has to sit and defend and will win.
With that said, my only goal during this battle was to take out the ares.
I put my mechs out far enough to protect my Arty and just pounded him with pogs every chance I got. By the time he actually got in range of my mechs he was halfway through his dial.
All I had to do was mop up what was left. But Mr. Bannson started moving in on my backside and hitting my paladin.
When my last piece clicked its last click I had the ares in salvage.
I consider the game a victory. I had a lot of fun and learned more than I could ask for.
Sounds like the Bannson player was a happy little opportunist. Oh, well. Looks like that game was rather interesting. When possible, try to get all four players together for team battles. That way things are more balanced.
