Select 2 face-up Attack Position monsters on the field. When any of the selected monsters are removed from the field, destroy this card. When this card is destroyed, destroy the selected monster(s).
In GB deck
Activate Widespread Dud (in opponent's end phase), select your Gladiator Beast and one Opponents' Attack monster. Tag out, effect triggers destroying their monster.
Was going to mention this in GB discussion thread, but i bet there are countless other decks which can use this card.
Yeah, but you'd have to be careful with your selection a lot of the time or the opponent could end up turning it against you. The fact that it's a Trap Card may not appeal to some people either.
In terms of removal, you may as well use something like Smashing Ground, Fissure, etc as you could use them immediately and they'd accomplish the same thing really. And they're not restricted to only looking at Attack Position monsters to activate.
Not a BAD card, but just that, to "competitive" people, there are much easier methods.
this is indeed one impressive card - even its rulings make it more impressive
Dud can Let opponents lyla break this, just chain to two other of your opponent monster, and then you could thank your opponent
Or
Lock two of your opponent monster and tag into Bestiari, destroy this card, contact fusion, destroy yet another 2 more cards.
OR
Drag your opponent monster along, just select any of your opponent monster and your monster that he is attacking.
As for its known rulings :
1. The effect of "widespread dud" targets two face up attack position monsters on the field.
So its effect it targets, but not a big deal as it doesnt hurt the deck that much
2. When "widespread dud" is removed from the field, its effect to destroy the targeted monsters does not start a chain link.
It doesnt start a chain? please say "NO" to stardust, and definitely our beloved starlight road. though if this erratted later on then screwed up would be a light statement reflecting that
3. If "widespread dud" is activated and an effect like "enemy controller" or "zero gravity" is chained so that a targeted monster(s) is in face-up defense position when "widespread dud" resolves, then the effect of "widespread dud" will still be applied, and will still continuously target those monsters. Also, if "widespread dud" has resolved and afterwards an effect changes one of the targeted monsters to face-up defense position, then the effect of "widespread dud" will still be applied, and will still continuously target those monsters.
Whilst bieng complicated and quite long it does ensure that if deceased become any of the 2 targets you select confirm will be locked by this card unless solemn or dark bribe of course take place but even after its resolved and such an effect takes place dud still goes ahead with its effect which is nice to know
4. If "widespread dud" is activated and an effect like "book of moon" or "compulsory evacuation device" is chained so that one of the targeted monsters is not face-up on the field when "widespread dud" resolves, then only the monster which is still on the field will remain targeted by "widespread dud". If that monster is removed from the field, then "widespread dud" is destroyed.
This makes it more fancy in my view as even book of moon cant stop/fizzle this card even if one of the target is no longer face up on the field. and you still get to lock the other monster. too bad this card targets, if not you can reselect another one, but that would be too broken to be true.
5. If "widespread dud" targets two monsters and only one of them is removed from the field, then "widespread dud" is still destroyed. Afterwards, the remaining monster which was targeted by "widespread dud" is destroyed.
Now best my understanding the chain connection between these 3 cards( 2 monsters and claymore dud itself), once a link is broken, the other link will ignite and explode.
Agreed this card does have uses outside of G-Beasts but it is best used in Glads as besides Fissure and Smashing ground there is also Lyla/ Bestiari, Breaker, there is still Kuraz and Mobius for Monarchs, Chiron the Mage, MST / Heavy / Twister / Dust Tornado / Mavolent Catastrophe
I mean using some old outdated cards as examples since I cant really think of anything else which might be useful but say for instance if one was to Select Mecha Dog Marron, play Creature Swap and afterwards play something like Mystical Space Typhoon and boom 1000 points instantly
likewise also good along with Ojama Trio - Play Ojama Trio - play something like Lyla or similar - 600 damage from 2 tokens or Activate Nightmare Archfiend - Activate Widespread Dud - Select Archfiend - Play something or even Flip Something like Man Eater Bug, Ryko etc and boom 1600 damage
or as YGO wiki states - Yubel might get a kick of this
Quote
You can enable or prevent "Yubel" from being destroyed through this card's effect by selecting "Yubel" and one other monster on the field. Your opponent will then have to avoid having that second monster destroyed to prevent "Yubel" from leveling up.
Quote
Even better, trigger the "Dud"'s destruction, and thus the leveling up of "Yubel", yourself. Select a monster you control and "Yubel". When "Yubel" tributes that monster during the end phase, "Dud" will be destroyed.
and last but not least everyones favourite Judgment Dragon
Quote
You can use this card when your opponent activates Judgement Dragon's destruction effect, assuming there is at least one other attack position monster on the field. After the resolution of Judgement Dragon's effect, the field will be completely clear.
of course thats all I can say off the top of my head but it does seem an interesting card yet one sadly underatted by many - due to the select 2 if it were as said up to 2 then it might be different but still good card
Of course, stuff that destroys itself somehow can be fun to try with it too like Samurai of the Ice Boundary for instance;
DT05-JP026
Samurai of the Ice Boundary
Water/Warrior/4/1800/1500
When this face-up Attack Position card on the field is changed to face-up Defense Position, destroy this card and draw 1 card.
Rare
...so not only would you set it off and destroy the other monster, but you'd also draw a card out of it AND you could do it immediately, provided you didn't Summon Samurai that turn.
I wouldn't...you won't always be picking just your opponent's monsters in any other Deck unless you LET them explode out to get 2+ Attack Position monsters, which is not a good idea, and other Decks would need to be more focused on its effect as not many are "naturally" able to fit it in like Gladial Beasts.
On your opponent's turn it's a situational AND less versatile Icarus Attack, and on your turn its a situational AND slower Smashing Ground.
The only time it does something that another card can't do better is if your opponent randomly MST's it with two monsters on the field. If your opponent is making moves like that, however, they are bad and you should win anyway.
With that said, your combo is cute, and it would be pretty hilarious to catch someone with that. Just don't try to make it competitive.
Well, one can't tell every single angle or use of a card just by reading the effect with very few exceptions. Otherwise, a bunch of so-called "terrible" cards wouldn't have been discovered to be so broken and, no, people did NOT "always" know they were broken the moment they read them in spoilers either, even Dark Dive Bomber. Just an excuse to cover themselves when they themselves bashed such cards to an extent, only to be proven very wrong.
Not saying Dud will become broken or "competitive" or anything, but it could be better than people give it credit for at the very least.
