So basically I wanted to start a thread about all the new possibilities that Plants will inherit once TSHD is released. This is the reason I will be attending a Sneak Peek event, to try and get my hands on these as soon as possible.
Spore
Level 1
WIND Plant/Tuner
400 ATK/800 DEF
Effect: You can remove 1 other Plant-Type monster in your Graveyard from play to Special Summon this card from your Graveyard. Increase this card's Level by that of the removed monster. You can only use this effect once per Duel.
Rose Bird
Level 4
WIND Plant/Effect
1800 ATK/1500 DEF
Effect: When this face-up Attack Position card is attacked, and it is destroyed as a result of battle and sent to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon 2 Plant-Type Tuner monsters from your Deck in face-up Defense Position.
Petit Inmato
Level 2
DARK Plant/Tuner
700 ATK/400 DEF
Effect: When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon up to 2 "Inmato" monsters from your Deck. The monster(s) Special Summoned by this effect cannot be used as Synchro Material Monsters this turn.
Revival Rose
Level 4
DARK Plant/Effect
1300 ATK/1300 DEF
Effect: When a Level 5 or higher Plant-type monster you control is destroyed, you can Special Summon this card from your Graveyard.
Snyffus
Level 1
EARTH Beast/Tuner
100 ATK/100 DEF
Effect: Once per turn, you can Tribute 1 Plant-Type monster to select and destroy 1 face-up card your opponent controls. When a Plant-Type monster(s) on the field is destroyed while this card is in the Graveyard, you can Special Summon this card from the Graveyard. If you do, it is removed from play when it is removed from the field.
Splendid Rose
Level 6
WIND Plant/Synchro/Effect
2200 ATK/2000 DEF
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
Effect: Once per turn, by removing from play 1 Plant-Type monster from your Graveyard, you can halve the ATK of 1 of your opponent's monsters until the End Phase. During a Battle Phase of the turn in which this card attacked, by removing 1 Plant-Type monster in your Graveyard from play, until the End Phase this card's ATK is halved and it can attack once again in a row.
Blossom Bomber
Normal Trap
Effect: When a Plant-Type monster you control destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard, inflict damage to your opponent equal to the destroyed monster's ATK.
So I think that the ones worth noticing are obviously Spore and the new Synchro Splendid Rose. Spore is basically doing what Plaguespreader Zombie does except better. The outcome is also the same, summon Spore, synchro, remove a plant from the grave to special and sync again. Spore states that it can only be used once per Duel, so that effect can only happen once where as Plague can be returned to the grave to sync again, however plants usually don't returned the RFG monsters to reuse them.
Snyffus is another that is HUGE. This newly announced TCG exclusive gives the plant decks everything they need with the addition of destruction in the form of a monster. Snyffus comes out, tributes tokens, and destroys things that are face up. Then, he Synchros something bigger. He is also using a return system similar to Plague, except he comes back when a plant is destroyed. Time to dust off those copies of Fragrance Storm... Not to mention he is BEAST, this guy is spammable with Rescue Cat!!
Splendid Rose is something that plants have also needed. This card allows you to take down bigger things on the field, and it is a decent 6 star synchro that plants can happily make.
Rose Bird does two things, searches out 2 tuner for you to abuse, and prevents attacks because your opponent does not want you to get those tuners to begin with. Excellent tutor here.
Petit Inmato is one of special topic of conversation. Petit Inmato induces the spamming of not only himself but Inmato as well. One Petit Dies by battle, a second replaces him WITH a regular Inmato as well. This accomplishes so many things, namely multiplying the number of monsters you have on the field. This type of searcher is amazing in the fact that it doubles your output. Your opponent anticipates lowering your numbers, but instead gives you a +1 when it dies. Coupled with Creature Swap, expect Inmato and Petit Inmato to be seen a lot more in the next few months.
I think petit inmato is the clear winner :p Splendid isn't bad, as another LV6 for plants, but its basically a baby black rose and not exactly what I want to get at LV6 when I could get goyo, brionac, Uruquizas or Queen of thorns. A nice one-of just in case though. Snyffus I'm unsure of, because he isn't a plant himself. Shouldn't be too big of an issue, but for some reason that little fact had a little alarmbell going off for me.
But on top of dandylion and lonefire, both great and semi-limited, snyffus is a good reason to be using limit reverse in plant decks.
Probably because of Unity of Family/"Solidarity"...at least for me, so being a Beast could throw it off until it gets removed by its effect.
Spore - Definitely a must-have for me. Sure, it's once per Duel, but a free Tuner Special Summon that, in this Deck, is better than Zombie Carrier/"Plaguespreader Zombie" and keeps to the theme is nice. And it's Level 1, so you only need to remove another lower Level Plant (plenty of) so it doesn't get too high a Level and you can easily get out various Synchros.
Rose Bird - Looks awesome on paper, but sadly, not as big as it's cracked up to be. Barring other effects, the fact that it requires itself to be in Attack Position with 1800 ATK and will only work if attacked and destroyed in battle and sent to the Graveyard by your opponent makes it tricky to pull off since any opponent in their right mind wouldn't willingly do so. That would mean you'd have to find some way to mix in stuff to force them to attack like Battlemania, Summon Limit - Reckless Monster/"All-Out Attacks", and such. Otherwise, chances are that they'll just use removal on it.
Petit Inmato - A great first turn card to Set, though I have sometimes run into the same problem as I have with Hydrogeddon, Deepsea Diva, and such in that you need to have 3 copies to maximize its use, so drawing out more than 1 can be a bit of a pain.
Revival Rose - Definitely better than it appears on paper. A Level 5 or higher Plant really shouldn't be a problem thanks to Lonefire Blossom getting them easily from the Deck and the list including Gigaplant, Titanial, Hell Bramble/"Queen of Thorns", Rose Tentacles, Phoenixician Cluster - Amaryllis, Splendid Rose, or older ones like Split D. Rose/"Regenerating Rose", Fairy King Truesdale, E. Hero Knospe, and E. Hero Blume/"Poison Rose". And it doesn't care where it ends up or who does it as long as it's under your control and is "destroyed" while this sits in the Graveyard.
Splendid Rose - Half of a mini-Black Rose due to its halving, but it makes up for it with its potential double attacking which Black Rose lacks. Definitely a nice thing to have waiting in the Extra Deck, especially with Black Rose Dragon restricted.
Blossom Bomber - Not needed, but not bad either, at least in a Plant-themed Deck of course. Great in combination with Black Rose Dragon (after using its 2nd effect) or, as the anime did, Splendid Rose.
Splendid Rose
Level 6
WIND Plant/Synchro/Effect
2200 ATK/2000 DEF
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
