Hey guys/girls! Sorry if it was answered a long time ago...
This is a question which is bothering me a lot of times, and I simply can't answer it too good.
So Pierce negates Battle Armor and Spell Resist, and Invulnerability bonus to def/minus to atk. or not?
I remember in my venue, the owner said Pierce negates the damage reduction of Invulnerability, but the +2 to defense remains. I know that he ruled some other things in a strange way also.
I believe Pierce negates the ability in its entirety; attacking using Pierce is like attacking a figure with no defensive SA. I would therefore say that everything, damage reduction and defense bonus, are negated.
I don't have the rules and FAQ with me right now but if i remember correctly, the only defense special ability not negated by pierce is Ghostform (not too sure about stealth and limited invisibility though). Everything else is like it's not there.
Yep. I just checked the comp rules and the exact wording is that the attacking figure ignores the defensive special abilities of the target figure.
However, it also explicitly mentions that Pierce does not work on figures with Limited Invisibility or Ghostform, because they prevent the figure from being targeted by a ranged attack in the first place.
Thank all of you for answering. The basic problem was that I was confused about the targettable/untargettable rules. So basically, if you are shooting with a figure who has Piercing, than all of the SA's of the target have in the defense region can be ignored if the target is targettable.
Then all the Inferno with Spell Resistance stuff all becomes so much easier to defeat. Even Tythania or Daheia copying a Pierce can be the doom of the figure(and relic) with little effort. That way, actually they will be used much more in my team. I'm happy with this as Oracle Daheia just arrived last week and we're planning a huge battle in the weekend.
Oh and all the stuff finally arrived from grunhir too. So Mike is happy with his 42 skeleton/zombie which he will surely blow up in our face...with his non-subfaction casters. A battle already occured (without me) in which he defeated Peter's "Anunub Techno Overloading Golem Familiars" army. I don't know at this point how will it turn out for us...
Have fun with Daheia equipped with Stone of Scrying and Magestone Bracers. :P
P.S.: if i find some free time, i'll make a thread with the best combination of items (based on my opinion) for the uniques i have...i guess it will prove useful. I'm also interested to see other opinions on the subject.
I'm sure it will be funny... however, a way must be found in which we can include our combos. Perhaps something like someone throws in a figure, and we see what we could do with it.
I think Daheia is nasty with Stone of Scrying, but the MsB os another thing. Daheia doesn't need the SR.
I think one of the best items is Gear Shield. It gives +2 defense(and -2 speed as well), but hasn't got any requirements! It means you can even combine with other items and relics for the full effect! Sure, the access to it is definetely not the easiest, but if you play with proxies, it doesn't really matter. (we play with a maximum of one proxy/team - that way, the combos can shine, but the cards trade price remains the same.)
Another good combination on casters (especially with magic immunity) is Book of Power and Wand of Fencing. You can cast and still defend yourself very well in close combat with Parry. Not to mention the +1 attack.
Daheia also can utilize the special solonavi spellbook, the Book of Mist. That gives no less then Ghostform to her! Cast Archer's eye, and keep some shades as a living wall, and you got the unreacheable warmage!
Gear Shield is veeeery good but Tinker is useless to her (if you play with factions like me), plus, i don't have the card and i don't use proxy.
The Stone may be more expensive but at least does something useful too. The Bracers are not there for the MR since she has the MI but to boost her defence to a respectable 20 combined with the Stone.
If and when i find a Gear Shield, i'll look into it further.
The Book of Power is also an interesting choice but i find the combination of the Wand of Fencing, Magestone Shield and Cloak of Shadows unbeatable, for spellcasters without the MI defense type at least. For example, imagine Maren'Kar with this setup.
Again, with the cards i have. Ok, i'm starting the thread. :)
