Just confiming what I think (and an explaination wouldn't hurt too).
I summon BK and BTH is chained, do I still get his effect? There is a guy at locals that doesn't think I do. My argument is I do because it was sucessfully summoned (BTH doesn't negate the summon or effect).
I know I can't call priority because it isn't a trigger effect.
U summon Boggart knight. Since its summon was successful (no warning etc), u get to say if u wanna use its effect, as this card says, when this card is summoned, u can do stuff. The monster got summoned, so u choose wether or not to activate its effect. That is before he activates his bth. So u say yeah, i activate its effect. Then the opponent activates the bth to remove it. The summon is not negated, the effect is not negated. The effect of boggart resolves after bth has resolved, and the monster is summoned. In order to shut down boggarts effect, u need to either not allow the successful summon of it (so that he does not meet the criteria required to ativate its effect), or negate its effect (e.g. divine wrath). Bottomless trap hole does neither.
If that guy played during a format where stratos was popular, ask him if the thing hes saying is valid, how come stratos gets its effect when it gets bth'd, since it is essentially the same text (When this dude gets summoned, do stuff)
The only way for an effect that activates upon being successfully Summoned in some way to be negated is if...
A.) The Summon itself is negated.
...or...
B.) Another card negates the effect attempting to activate.
Neither case is happening here as Bottomless Trap Hole neither negates the Normal Summon nor does it negate Boggart's effect from activating/resolving in any way.
Also, priority can be done with Spell Speed 1 Ignition Effects OR Trigger effects. When you Summon a monster, you can declare priority to activate any Ignition or Trigger effect BEFORE the opponent can respond to the Summon (unless it's negating the Summon entirely). They cannot attempt to activate anything unless it triggers automatically somehow or you pass priority to them. Then you resolve the chain normally after the opponent does their thing.
