I put aside Gravekeepers just before I found out about Recruiter. Now I dont know if I want to try them out again or avoid em like the plague.
One things for sure: Everybody at ATL was laying their bets on Plant Synchros. Top 32 is littered with them.
It was the best deck coming in, which is why GK was a good pick for this tournament to win it all. I mean 9 out of 10 duels were against Plant synchro, and GK shuts it down. GK aren't broken, or the new meta, it'll just mean with GK in the mix, and there being a larger number of them, a lot of people will revert to decks that aren't as vulnerable. recruiter made GK viable and that's what we needed to stop graveyard reliance to such a degree.
Gravekeepers are interesting because it makes a lot of decks approach tournaments and Game 2 differently. Playing with Infernities there have been a number of times in Game 1 that I've had to use One For One to get Mirage and then Synch it with Avenger to get Formula Synchro and another draw. Obviously this isn't the ideal use for Mirage, but if Necrovalley is locking down my Graveyard it gives me another way to dig for answers in my deck.
Mystical Space Typhoon is going to see more main and side deck play. The two copies of MST that I'm main decking in Infernities isn't enough removal to deal with Necrovalley, because a lot of times it's online before I have a set Barrier. I'm probably going to side deck in a pair of Dust Tornadoes or Twisters, obviously both have their pros and cons.
Breaker the Magical Warrior also seems like a great counter to Necrovalley since you can destroy Valley and then attack over pretty much any Gravekeeper on the field with Breaker's 1600 attack. The one issue I can see is Bottomless Trap Hole, but since that's only a two of threat maybe it's not worth sweating too much. I'll have to test this out and see how it works.
Wow I knew that Recruiter was good, but I didn't think it would put GKs on top. Of course Necrovalley and Royal Tribute played a big part.
Breaker has alot of problems hitting GKs. Between Spy always beating it and spell and trap support like Book of Moon and Bottomless keeping Breaker from using his effect, I don't see him getting much play.
I could see Ancient Fairy Dragon get some play though. Most people would just say go for Black Rose, but AFD gives you an option that keeps your field in tact and gain 1000 to boot. If I have some room I might try one.... but normally I don't want to waste the space on it.
Goldd, Wu-lord of Dark World should see side deck play again. Royal Tribute would force Goldds secondary effect to go off which would kill Necrovally and probably the only monster that would pose a threat.
Outside of that, just more of the same, Dust Tornado, Delta Crow, etc.

But how do most top decks get to AFD while avoiding necrovalley ?
Nobody expected GK, thats why they topped. Its a good deck, just not the best deck right now. BW has hardly any problem w/ Necrovalley and Icarus plays tear up GK. Like it was said earlier, the situation was just ripe for GK to win.

Since I'm still relatively new at playing Infernities, is the discard part of Infernity Inferno a cost or part of the card effect? If it's part of the effect then Goldd could be a great answer to my Necrovalley concerns.

Which is great for Infernity Inferno but doesn't Goldd's effect activate in the Graveyard? So if your opponent plays Royal Tribute to discard it from your hand wouldn't Goldd be negated by Necrovalley?

Hey i'm not saying its a great out, but at least its an option.Yeah most decks would have to use something like Debris Dragon or Salvo to get it easily, which won't work due to Nercovalley. BW have Gale that could special summon after Bora or Shura to get to it. Infernities could side Goldd and Beetles so they could benefit off of RT with Goldd and then use Beetle to synchro for AFD. Or dump a Goldd with Inferno and summon a Beetle to go for AFD. Sure they might not be the most consistant outs ever, but at least the options are there. Sabers are kinda screwed out of a easy AFD but who cares? They have Hyunlei which is way better. Quickdraw could do a premature move to AFD with Debris/Dandylion to force the opponent get rid of AFD before playing Necrovalley. Just some ideas. I haven't been playing much lately so there is probably something else i am forgetting.
For some decks Valley is the problem. Yes Valley stuffs up Plants, Scraps and the like, but I've found the main problem to be the monsters (free with Recruiter, Spy and Stele) and Decendant. I've found that Valley just adds a little of a STUN aspect. With Sabers anyway.

Plants have no problems with the monsters, at all. They pack enough access to destruction. But they also almost entirely play out of the graveyard.
