Hey guys, as some of you may or may not know, I'm playing Fram's campaign this summer, and I though I'd solicit some help from you. I'm in the process of building a castle in the region I think the Atlantean player will attack, but I want your opinion on how I should man it. I'm the Elven player, and my collection is pretty sizable, so you can use any KI or EL pieces you want. The only relics you can use, however, are the Tome of Hope and Spirit Armor, though all items (including the Apprentice Folio) are fair game. I'll take general advice, specific builds (~600-1200 points let's say) -- anything you want to give. Keep in mind whatever you come up with will have to deal with the usual Atlantean muscle, e.g. Storm Golem, Magus, Raydan Marz, etc. Bonus points for having anything resembling an answer to a light Fist of Tezla, which may be heading my way.
Well, Paladin's Greatsword on a very tank-y figure might be a good answer (or part of a good answer) to the tank. FoT has a great ranged attack with multiple targets and F/L (and pierce, though the light version doesn't have pierce). It does have flight, but fortunately it can't soar.
Just get in there with some strong melee folks and rip it up. The light version only has one click of invulnerability per dial, an 11 attack and a 17 defense. And the lack of pierce on the weak version of FoT is pretty huge. Go for high damage and high defense, keep the number of attackers low (and spread out), rush them in quick, and smash.
The real trick will be to simultaneously keep his support figures off the dragon and off your main attackers' backs (watch out for him trying to pack a swarm of demi-magi on to the tank). Sweep might be a good way of dealing with both problems).
Oh and castle walls outrange a FoT. FoT only has 10 range, but castles can shoot 12.
Basically, if he just wanted to knock down walls, he would've been much better off investing in a cannon or stonethrower. Or a figure like Boomstone.
Some ideas besides the obvious zillion archers suggestion:
- Griffon madness!! (I kinda did this in one conquest tourney) Field as many ** Rock Griffins you can possibly have, 2 of the mighty ** Skyguard Griffons and Herald Caliantha (or whatever the name is) on a ** Cloud Griffon leading them to battle!!
- Capitalize on lack of Pierce/Crushing Blow of several 1.0 figures. Miraxus with Cloak of Dervish could be really annoying for example.
