Well its been a long time since I have posted. I try to have a MK battle about every month. My friends and I have been keeping it up all this time. Usually if we have a larger point conquest game it stretches it to 2-3 months depending on how long it takes us to finish.
But I decided to post a 300 point EL pure for some fun.
Geddion Longblade - 55
- Spirit Armor - 40
Elabeth the Pure - 71
- Tome of Hope - 45
- Auraheal - 12
- Arcane Sight - 4
- Voice of Glory - 3
- Disbelieve - 4
Rivvenguard Archer ** - 52
Frost Minion ** - 35
=298
Strenghts: Good range threat and defenders for those ranged threats. Elabeth and the ** Archer can go toe to toe with most ranges adversaries. Detterent to swarm via the ** minion. strong damage and attack with Geddion (Slower, but the ranged figures can draw people in somewhat.)
Weaknesses: Lack of toughness for things such as pestilence/auto-damage. Big beat stick with galeshi sunsword. Some big chargers C/MCers.
The only problem I have with faction pure is that you usually find yourself giving up a few points. Here you're still down 1-3 points. This is an all out assault group, no real healers.
One other oversight, you've got nothing to take to the air, soooo...
I'd replace Elabeth. Put Herald Calianthia on a Cloud Griffin. More maneuverability, 12" mounted bound vs 8" bound, and I'd prefer Leadership over Command. Gain Hex over magic healing. She can still carry a book if you want the healing back, but I might try Valor. Adds 3 to her defense, speed isn't affected, she heals Demo'd.
I always liked Mistral with Spirit Armor. Zeph is a solid 2nd choice, the additional Leadership won't hurt.
Geddion is a nice back-up, if Mistral/Zeph dies, Geddion picks up Spirit Armor and re-assigns it.
I am not sure about Herald Calianthia, always seemed more of a support/battlefield control figure. More of a control the battlefield figure. Great in higher point games but I never could find a place in lower point games. No ranged damage to support the 12" bound and 10" range, only magic confusion. Also more expensive 63 + 59 = 122 without adding any spell books, etc.
I do like the Mistral option tho, would give me some presence in the air, and to go after the beefed up Inferno wielders. With Geddion around to pick up the armor if/when Mistral drops it. Changing things up to:
Geddion Longblade - 55
Elabeth the Pure - 71
- Tome of Hope - 45
- Auraheal - 12
- Arcane Sight - 4
- Voice of Glory - 3
- Disbelieve - 4
Hoping to get together with some friends for some MK tomorrow actually. So hoping to use it. I am just wondering what my opponents are going to bring. I will try post some sort of recap if the games do occur. :)
Thanks for the interest. I may start posting randoms armies here and there on the boards. Just to bring some of the nostalgia back, while waiting for info on the resurgence of my beloved game.
Its nice to see people perusing these boards on more regular intervals too. :D
Sorry I didn't get to you sooner, but let us know how it went, by all means! If there's some chance you're still perusing the boards before you play, here's what I would say:
I think Sky was right, you should scrap Elabeth -- she's too many points for 1 click of Bound. I don't think that Mistral is the way to go, though. Even with Spirit Armor, he can just be captured. I think the 1-2 ranged punch you had is the way to go, but I think you can do it more efficiently.
I'd start with Geddion, Spirit Armor, and two **Rivvenguard Archers, to give you that 1-2 punch; this leaves you with 101 points. Now, you could drop another 50-70 in a spell caster to save you from those relics I mentioned, but I think with so few points left you might want to go the poor man's way, and instead rely on harassment. Together, this would give you an army that looks like:
Geddion Longblade - 55
Spirit Armor - 40
Cloak of Shadows - 8/Potion of Dueling - 6
**Snow Centaur - 41 (the one with Ram)
*War Priestess - 35/**War Priestess - 37
*High Elven Warrior - 16
No soaring, but it was a choice between soaring and healing. Overall, I think it's solid, but if you're afraid of something more gimmicky, like BoL or Explode Undead or something like that, the Auraheal in your original build might serve you better.
** Snow Centaur - 41 (the one with Ram)
* Herraman Priestess - 34
* High Elven Warrior - 16
= 298
I like the * Herraman Priestess better than the war priestess' mostly due to her range becoming 10 and damage 3 with spirit armor. I have caught a harasser or two who forgets that fact.
No problem, let us know how you do. Good call on the Hierraman Priestess, too, I totally forgot about her. Gives you a ranged option against Inferno, too, in a pinch.
I had some of my friends over for some MK. Its nice to see even their enthusiasm back into it a bit more since the whole "maybe coming back" thing rolled around. We played a few games. Just thought I would share a bit of my results for fun.
Note: I dont remember everything turn by turn, but somewhat the flow of the battle.
Well first I played a Magus Alment Lan centerpeiced Golem Familiar swarm. Technomatic overload and Magestone arc and all that fun stuff.
I kept my force together on the right side of the field, attempting to use one of the blocking terrain features as a good staging ground for my two ** archers.
My opponent moved his little swarm of familiars and the Magus also along the right side of the field. He had 2 groups of 3 Familiars if i remember correct.
I sent my centaur to the left of the field double timing him, attempting to flank the whole operation.
Soon after I got two shots off on a Golem familiar with my archers turning it into slag. My HEW double timed to base the non assaulted familiar group to tie it up. Geddion also moved into charge range of another familiar.
My opponent responded by Magestone arcing Geddion. and Smacking my HEW with a Golem familiar.
I Double timed my Centaur to base the Magus. I also moved my Priestess healer into range of Geddion. He moved his shocktrooper into base with the centaur.
My archers sprang and killed off another familiar but also both moved into bound range of the Magus. I pushed the priestess to heal Geddion and she suceeded so I charged the last remaining familiar of the one formation dealing 4 damage to it.
The magus attempted to break away from my Centaur with no luck. Next turn I broke with the centaur dealing 1 shake off, and pushed the archers to bound up. One hitting and one missing.
That ended up being the turning point a bit. He held on really well, taking out my Geddion, my HEW, one of my archers and my healer. We had alot of fun. Technomatic overload can be crazy fun to play against. Makes a wounded army dangerous.
The other army I played against was Heddravalis w/ Inferno + MSB.
Was sort of my fault tho, as I allowed him to borrow the inferno to use... silly me.
It wasn't so much a massacre... but it was a massacre. Silly me had no flight. I do remember taking out a few of his support before he finally destroyed my archers and left me to run around a bit trying to secure objective tokens.
My Snow Centaur didnt die. I think that was it... :P
