As I reported from GenCon; Vs. System is back ... but only if the fan base supports it (which I assume starting to rally their stores to generate interest in the product).
So before we all get excited; let's make sure we understand what this is and what it isn't.
It is an opportunity for the Vs. System we all love to have an honest rebirth (assuming this "LCG" thing doesn't derail it permanently; but that's for a different thread).
It isn't for anyone who believe this will increase the value of their "classic" Vs. System cards. If you don't buy the new stuff; there's no point in bringing it back.
This isn't going to be a product that you can draft ... unless I don't understand the new distribution method.
It isn't going to be the "same game"; in the sense the UDE doesn't have the DC Comics license anymore.
It is an opportunity to bring in the licenses that they do have and treat the game for what it is, a "system" for combining multiple licenses (Think of the way that HeroClix can mix Star Trek, Marvel, Street Fighter, DC, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Halo without a problem).
It's a great entry point for new players who don't want to pay for 4x Savage Beatdowns. The game engine will be the primary focus; which is good considering that it's a solid one.
Dunno, I liked Legendary after saying I was never going to play a UDE game ever again.
My heart was stomped on with this game, depending on the price point I might be interested, but I can't justify to myself opening old wounds for something in the same price range of Legendary.
That being said, I like the theme, so I'm biased, but it was my favorite CCG as far as gameplay goes. None of the others have been able to moderately hold my interest.
Vs. just takes me back to a time where I was really happy with "gaming". Times have changed and I may never recapture that moment again ... but the possibility sure is worth the risk. :)
Typhon, are you the same Typhon from HCRealms? I love VS and think this news is the best I have heard since the game died. I hope UDE is more successful this time around.

Yup; same Typhon. At some point I'll finally finish merging the two sites and have a unified community ... until then ;I'll hop between the two sites.
And as he slumbered deeply in that dark cavern, his heart beat once more, for the first time in ages, as he allowed himself to feel the faintest glimmer of hope.

Now I know how Dr. Frankenstein felt when his monster first rose from the slab. I feel like shouting "It's alive!, IT'S ALIVE!" from the top of my roof, but I feel that would be a bit premature. LCG's are certainly great, but I'm not convinced it is the right model for Vs. System. Still, I'm optimistic, and looking forward to future developments. Vs. System was absolutely my favorite card game, and any positive news concerning its return is welcome.
I'm in. Love the idea for complete sets helps keep the casual gamer in. No more of the haves and have nots. I am curious as to how that affects the secondary market and hobby stores?
I am tentatively in - never got into Legendary and am ready to embrace a LCG style superhero game. I understand this is not the VS I remember and enjoy, but hope it will be at least an enjoyable super hero battle game like Overpower and VS 1.0 were for me and my family.
