Since you're placing, I'll let you make the call of whether you want to use teleporters or start on the left and right sides to play with a shortboard map. I'm slightly inclined towards the latter, but would be fine with either.
Note that Outdoor Blocking Terrain (of which there is a fair amount) does not block LOF to or from Giants/Colossals. But also note that not all the 2x2 figures in the set are Giants or Colossals. Exodus and Madrox for example are regular sized even though on a 2x2 base
"Well isn't this so very condescending of the high and mighty Charles Xavier to join us 'villains' here today," Mastermind said.
"Stop it, Wyngarde. Charles is here at my request and has my safeguard," Magneto said.
"Doesn't mean we have to like him," Pyro said.
"Nor does it mean I have to like working with you," Professor X said. "But if Eric is sufficiently convinced that there is a great enough danger to ask for my help, I will at least listen to what he has to say."
"Nothin' new here, Magneto and Baldy seem to break up and kiss and make up every couple of months," Sabretooth said, cracking open the latest in what had already been a series of beers.
"If you think that's the biggest surprise. you're going to be very, very surprised," Legion said.
"What do you mean by that, David?" Charles asked, suddenly wary.
"He would be referring to us," Nimrod said emerging from behind a sliding panel with a Sentinel behind him."
"Eric! What is the meaning of this?" Charles asked angrily.
"Calm yourself, Charles. They too are uneasy allies."
Just a reminder this is the same Sabretooth we played in the Halloween game where nether he nor anyone he's attacking can take more than 1 click of damage until he gets 3 error tokens. Also, your Magneto has this same Trait.
So first turn immunity, I can't target you. Your turn, you can only target figures that I've moved out of my starting area (and don't worry you will have tagets). After that it's all bets are off.
Rolling for Legion:
WE ARE LEGION: At the beginning of your turn, roll a d6, then you may add 1 to or subtract 1 from the result. Then turn Legion's dial to that click number. (He does not return to his initial click. You can't access click #0 in any other way.) I roll a 1. I will subtract 1 from 1 to get 0. So he will be on click #0, this turn.
Nimrod carries Pyro. D/E8/9 and C9 for Pyro
Cy-Sentinel to F/G13/14, carrying Wyngard to E14
Sabretooth to H9
Professor X takes a Power Action, gives Nimrod an Influence token.
I guess I'll try to press my advantage. Onslaught free incap on Cyke Sentinel. Needs 7, gets 7. A token to it.
Magneto rs to M10 attacking Nimrod & Sentinel. SC is 6, no Nimrod. Rolls 12. Oh what a way to start. 2 to Sentinel. And obviously no error tokens there.
If I understand it right, Sentinel gets a wounded token, even though that's Wendigo's trait it still applies.
Scanner makes an astral.
Wendigo sides to MN11,12 then charges to HI13,14 on Sentinel. Needs 6, rolls 6. 4 more to Sentinel. You get a sentinel head, btw. Looks pretty terrific.
Nathaniel tks Storm to L12.
She attacks Nimrod. SC is 3. Needs 8, rolls 9. 1 to him. She places a storm marker in E9.
Summers tks Blob to H7.
Blob charges to E7 attacking Nimrod. Needs 7, rolls 6.
I'll stop there, I've already gotten a big advantage by getting to go 2nd.
Head will be in F12. I wonder if the "can't be KOd except by a critical hit" thing on it means I can push it and the push damage won't KO it.
Legion rolls a 2. I'll subtract 1 and go to click #1
I was putting off taking a turn here until I could really take my time with it, and now that I can, I think that was smart. I'm still overwhelmed by all the choices.
Prof X. With his MC he can use it from a square with a figure with an Influence token, which is the Cyclops Sentinel. On Wendigo. AV9 on DV18. Gets 6. I'll hold off on Legion's PC
Wyngarde. Sides to E16. Tries to Mind Control the Wendigo. No Battle Fury on him just yet. AV11 on DV18 +1. Gets 12. Kind of a waste, but I'll take it.
Wendigo Moves to J/K13/14 on Storm. AV12 on DV18. Gets 11. Scanner's in Range, but Onslaught, being another Giant, blocks her LOF to Wendigo. Onslaught though, makes it 9. 4 to Storm.
Now with his Trait, he can use MC again, as if he occupied Wendigo's place. Guess Storm's my only option then. AV11 on DV17. Gets 6. Using the new MC rules Storm can try to break to move. Gets 3. Just attacks Wendigo, I guess. Needs another 12. Gets an excellent 10, but won't break his reducers.
Since that was a close MC attack, Jason's done.
Pyro RS to C7 on Blob. AV10 on DV17. Gets 9. 1 to Blob
Sentinel Head on Wendigo. AV12 on DV18. Gets 10. Man, my dice are hot tonight. 4 Penetrating to Wendigo.
Nimrod Sidesteps to E/F9/10, carries Pyro to E11, does RCE on Wendigo. AV11 on DV18. Gets 9. 3 to Wendigo after Invulnerable.
Cyke Sentinel Charges to I/J10/11 to Quake AV10. Gets 7. I'll give Scanner the benefit of the doubt on LOF for this one, though it's still iffy. Makes it a 7 again. KOs Storm. Not enough to hit anyone else.
Sabretooth Charges to L9 on Magneto. AV12 on DV18. Gets 6 (no 1s) for 1 to Magneto.
So regarding Jason's Psionic Illusions Trait, "FREE: Choose a character on your sideline of 150 points or less (on their highest-point line). Generate a bystander printed on that character's card. Each bystander generated this way has [MAX 1]. You may activate this ability only twice per game." We tend to play pretty loose with Sideline figures and usually say we can consider any eligible figure as being potentially on the Sideline, so in theory, Jason could bring in any Bystander that's generated by a figure (twice per game and not the same one twice). Since this is a set game I would say it's limited to figures in the set. If you're inclined to agree, I would use the Trait now to bring in Slab, to whom he will Mastermind. If you don't agree, we can discuss before you go.
To summarize damage, Storm's KOd. Wendigo's taken 7. 1 each to Magneto and Blob.
Thanks for the damage summary as this may be a brutal game I think that's a good thing to show each other.
Too bad about Storm, she looks good, I'll probably try her out again sometime.
Wendigo should have healed past his starting click. I missed that and frankly I'm not clear what click he'd be on in that case but it's done already.
Magneto on Sentinel. RCEs his av to 13. Needs 5, rolls 5. Only 1 to it.
Wendigo charges to JK11,12. Needs 7 to ko, gets 3. Scanner: 8. Legion: 8. KOs it. Wendigo steals energy for 1. Sentinel would get a wounded token again and Wendigo can use sidestep to block.
I'm not clear on if colossals can see over blocking. Onslaught to NO10,11.
Let's play with Sabretooth a tad. Mr. Sinister, cheap version, comes in at L12 for Storm. Outwits Sabre's ss.
My brothers want to come out and play. Eric rs to L6 needing 7, gets 10, 2 5s. That's unfortunate. 1 to Sabre and kb to L10.
Two Cables free tk the other brothers to LM11.
Harlan needs 8, rolls 7. Onslaught makes it 8. 1 to him.
Sven needs 8, rolls 10. 1 more to Sabretooth.
Blob gets a stability token.
Sinister sides to K11.
Damage this turn wasn't so bad: Cyclops Sentinel is koed; 3 damage to Sabretooth.
I'm not clear on if colossals can see over blocking. Onslaught to NO10,11.
From an earlier post: Note that Outdoor Blocking Terrain (of which there is a fair amount) does not block LOF to or from Giants/Colossals. But also note that not all the 2x2 figures in the set are Giants or Colossals. Exodus and Madrox for example are regular sized even though on a 2x2 base
Now that the Sentinel is KOd, the Head is still on the map but may be KOd normally.
I roll for Legion - 1. Sweet. I may add or subtract 1 from that and go to that click. I will subtract 1 to go to click 0. Which is a mind-blowing click. Pity he can only stay there for a turn. (I pulled Legion during a Sealed this week - he was fantastic. A little random, but getting to choose one of three clicks instead of just being stuck with the one you rolled mitigates the random factor a lot)
I hate to pick on Wendigo, but he's there. Legion Sidesteps to C13, targets Wendigo. AV12 on DV17. Gets 6. 5 Penetrating - puts him on his Stop Click.
Magneto for the KO? AV11 on DV17. Gets 7. He is out.
Wyngarde, free action, uses his other Psionic Illusion for an Astral Scanner, who will Phase to K11 to block
I thought Madrox would be a fun way to deal with the Blob, but I'm already at my limit for Bystander tokens. So instead I will use Eugene at 100. Charges to C/D7/8 on Blob. AV10 on DV17. Gets 10. Blob takes 1, of course.
Damage summary will be a short one. KO Wendigo, 1 to Blob
"I'm bored just sitting around. I want to kill something!" Legion said.
"David!" Charles scolded him.
"Can't control your own child, Charles?" Magneto said with amusement. Legion had already levitated forward to blast at the Wendigo. Magneto followed it up with the coup de grace.
"All the guys I could get to fight and I"m fighting the Blob? How embarassing."
"Crud. It's the Juggernaut!" the Blob said. Or...wait...you ain't the Juggernaut."
"Oh I'm the Juggernaut all right," Eugene Witterspan said. "Or at least enough of the Juggernaut to punch your lights out."
