While we are getting the umpteenth version of Spider-Man and Wolverine, there are still oh so many more or less popular characters out there that are still waiting impatiently for their Heroclix debut. In this edition of Unclixed, it's Squirrel Girl’s computerized compatriot, Brain Drain!
The 1940’s! Werner Schmidt was a scientist walking around one day when an alien ship crash landed on top of him. The aliens, feeling a slight tinge of remorse, rebuilt him. Unfortunately, unlike the Six Million Dollar Man, Werner wasn’t built stronger or faster. He was turned into a Nazi member of Hydra with plans for world domination. Fortunately, The Invaders put a stop to him. And a later attempt to take over New York City was thwarted by the Liberty Legion and a time tossed Thing.
Brain Drain would end up in present day when he was unearthed from ice in Canada, where The Master of the World would make him a part of Omega Flight. Different fight with a superhero team, same results: Brain Drain was defeated.
Fast forward to 2015. Brain Drain’s tech is horribly outdated, failing and wasn’t very good to begin with since the aliens that assembled him had no idea what made humans tick. So he came to New York to seek out someone he heard could help: Squirrel Girl.
After fixing his programming and allowing him the newfound ability to grow as a person, Brain decided to stick around and help Squirrel Girl and her friends in crimefighting.
Why clix him? Simply put, we’ve gotten every other superhero that’s a part of Squirrel Girl’s band of friends but Brain Drain. And additionally, since we KNOW Wizkids loves their sculpt reuse, they could make a prime for his old time as a villain, since we don’t have many foes for The Invaders or Alpha Flight.
Who would he play with? Squirrel Girl and friends; Hydra; Robot generic teams. Omega Flight IF THEY MADE MORE.
What would his dial look like? Early in his existence, Brain Drain had mind control powers, but everything after that just depicted him as a Super Strong robot bruiser. Since he’s reformed though, he’s used his mind in a different way to stop crooks, by outsmarting them, so some good Outwit/Perplex ought to be on his dial.
What would your dial for Brain Drain look like, folks? Feel free to reply as that's it for this edition of Unclixed! Be here next week for an all new Comic Accurate! In two weeks, Unclixed will be back with a Marvel villain and anti-hero!
My first introduction to the character was in a 70s-era Marvel Two-in-One Annual that had The Thing time traveling back to WWII and teaming up with The Liberty Legion. They fought against a team of Axis super-villains that included Master Man, U-Man, and Brain Drain.
Past that, I am not sure I ever saw him in another comic until Ryan North brought him into the very-recently concluded Squirrel Girl series. As she is inclined to do, Squirrel Girl talked to Brain Drain and befriended him. I forget the details, but he set himself up in a robot body for which he designed a superhero outfit, inspired by the selfless heroics of his new friend.
Brain Drain, in that series, could thereafter be counted upon for his attempts to understand humanity and heroism, almost always sprinkled with his studies into philosophy. That guy could even make Nietzsche funny.
...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.

From the moment Brain Drain appeared, I was hoping - really seriously hoping - that North was going to bring in Awesome Andy from the old She Hulk book. It got to the point that my son had almost head-canoned Andy into the story because he had heard me talking about him so much. Now, I have decided that I need a six-issue limited series team-up of those two. Andy and Brian, off having merry adventures together and discussing the difficulty of human interaction.
Want him clicked, but Squirrel Girl and her friends could use a unifying keyword since he likely wouldn't get Animal like Chipmunk Hunk and Koi Boi. Plus I want Nancy Whitehead.
He's so great. My daughter has gone to a couple of cons as Squirrel Girl and I've tried to figure out a way to cosplay him but I've never really gotten it together.
A lot of SG's supporting cast (and villains!) could use some clix love:
Old Lady Squirrel Girl
Melissa Morebeck
Thor Squirrel Girl
Cat Loki
Weapon II
Ratatoskr
T-Rex Ultron
Nancy Whitehead (and Mew)
Allene Green (sort of evil SG duplicate)
There was even a great team-up issue with Tippy Toe and Hawkeye's dog Lucky, so you could use it as an excuse to get Pizza Dog.
Welp, I had to take a stab at the A/B prime idea, so anyway here's Wonderwall...

I Am Fun At Parties: Defend. During force construction, you may choose a keyword shared
by at least two other characters on your force and Brain Drain gains that keyword. Trapped In A Monstrous Body I Cannot Control And Which Is Programmed To
Destroy You: When Brain Drain is KO'd, don't remove him from the map. Instead, turn him to
click #1 and an opponent places him adjacent to a character on their force. He is now friendly to
that opponent's force. // Brain Drain has a damage value of 3 and is KO'd when he crosses the
red KO line if he is not on his starting force. New, Improved, And Ready For The Lifelong Journey Of Self-Improvement:
Incapacitate. When he uses it and hits, choose a different option for each hit character: MOVE
-or- POWER -or- FREE. The hit character can't take actions of the type chosen for them on their next turn. Your Greatest Enemy... Is Yourself: Outwit, and when Brain Drain uses it you may give
him an action token to immediately use it again, but only to target the same character.
