Reading the new Strikeforce comic from Marvel, i was thinking about playing them in one on my next tournaments.
But there are two figures kinda contradicting each other:
asm009 Daimon Hellstrom:
Quote
EXORCIST SUPREME: Daimon Hellstrom and adjacent friendly characters can't be the target of Mind Control.
abpi016 Winter Soldier
Quote
REPROGRAMMING: Adjacent opposing characters can use Mind Control, but only to target Winter Soldier. When they do, if their attack roll is 10 or higher and they hit, after resolutions Winter Soldier is now friendly to that opponent's force.
Can opposing characters use Mind Control to target Winter Soldier, if he's adjacent to Hellstorm?
"Can't" generally wins. So Reprogramming gives adjacent opposing character the ability to use mind control against Winter Soldier, then Daimon Hellstrom takes it away. As long as he is adjacent to Winter Soldier as well.
I'm not thinking of good examples off the top of my head, but generally it has to be explicit for a can to beat a can't. If somebody outwits your willpower, you can't say "But indomitable says I can use willpower." There isn't a contradiction. Can't just takes it away.
That is an awesome example with Indomitable there. One other element I might include to help understand is that Winter Soldier's Reprogramming is giving a special version of a standard power like so many others (such as Shazam getting Hypersonic Speed, but can use Quake instead of the attack). In this case, it's giving the power with a targeting restriction that Winter Soldier is the only legal target. However, Daimon Hellstrom says your people can't be targeted. This effectively means Winter Soldier is giving a power that the opponent is not able to use practically. The power is still present for things that care about its presence, such as dxf028 Psylocke attacking a character that can use Mind Control.
Quote
MINDBLADE: When Psylocke makes a close attack and hits an opposing character that can use Incapacitate, Mind Control, Outwit or Penetrating/Psychic Blast, roll a d6 that can't be rerolled and increase Psylocke's damage value by half the result.
Non-binary. Please refer to me in "they/them" pronouns. Thank you.
