A wave of anti-Metahuman hysteria is sweeping the nation. And as this happens, tragedy befalls the Justice League, leaving them in a state of disarray. In this edition of Comic Accurate, it's the last days of Justice League Detroit!
During the Legends crossover of 1986, change was in the air. As this was DC's first big crossover since the Crisis rebooted their history, the company was re-organizing some of its titles. One such title up for a relaunch? The Justice League. At the time, the team was living in Detroit and its roster was somewhat... unconventional. So the team was going to be broken up. Two members died and the only member to advance to the next lineup was Martian Manhunter. This is our team!
Why these figures - Lemme be honest for a second; I'd had a JL Detroit team built last year, the major differences being the 140 point con exclusive of Martian Manhunter and the experienced Elongated Man from Collateral Damage. But the debut of the new OP Kit LE Martian Manhunter allowed me to upgrade Ralph to the version from the Flash set. And as it turned out, the points came out almost perfectly.
Tips for running this team - For starters, get those cookie objects. I'm not a fan of the need to race for the objects or take damage, but here we are regardless. Vibe's Telekinesis should at least be able to help get the jump on it. And don't be afraid to push Gypsy to get to those Probability Control or at least the Defend clicks. Between those last two clicks and if adjacent to Steel's for his defense bump, her attack might stink, but the opposition will have to work to put them down.
Let us know how Justice League Detroit does for you! Next week, it's a new issue of Unclixed! Then in two weeks, it's another Comic Accurate!
I've been trying to build this team since at least 2016 (actually mentioned it in one of my rare posts) and I always get stuck at about 699 points. That was before Steel came out and when I added him and remixed the team with newer pieces... still 699. This is the same problem I had with the original JLA and the JLU and JLE until they started to lower the points.
Here's my team. I don't know how to do the team build code, or I'd have that on here (maybe I'll edit this to fix that if I learn and if it's possible)
So, I know that I put the entire roster on, which might not be 100% accurate to a specific comic issue since members come and go, but it's all of them.
I like the Anniversary John Jones because 1) he's affordable while still having his powers and 2) he can still change into the Martian form. The Teen Titans Aquaman might not be a powerhouse, but that era's Aquaman was a bit... depressed. Plus, it has an 80 point dial, if I ever need to save 30 points (looking at you Gypsy).
What I really need is a more affordable Zatanna (I know there is a lower costed one, but that's a Batman Animated version and I don't have that one and the 45 with Aquaman's savings of 30 still isn't quite enough to save 100 points) and an updated Gypsy. But that wouldn't solve the high cost issue.
I could switch out Aquaman for my all-time favorite... but he doesn't seem to fit the aesthetic.
Given the teams are not WK deemed KW themed teams, I am shocked anyone would consider a J'onn besides this one:
He is everything you need.
I look forward to getting and trying the LE - especially since so many think he is "unplayable". Maybe he is horrid - but I see a lot of potential. Hopefully my venue gets these guys in before February.
The given issues were the first Justice League of America issues I ever bought from a comic shop. My teenage self was interested in exploring the deaths of heroes in the genre.
Every time I think about that Steel, I always picture that cover of him, hand up, crying out in pain. I still have that final 4 issues.
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.
I liked the figures you've chosen for this 500 pts.
I actually liked this incarnation of the JLA, especially the Despero encounter. I know it didn't really feel like the JLA, but I liked some of the stories.
