Everybody is extremely excited about the FF Booster release, and while I知 not exactly a fan, I do want to get your opinions of Skrulls nowadays, with the Captain Marvel Movie Grav Feed, and this FF booster brick. Super Skrull looks pretty fun to play with, while Skrull General adds more headache to the shape change rolls. The Silver Surfer Prime (Skrull) also adds to their flavor... the idk, they are what I知 most excited for, am I alone in this?
I haven't looked at the new F4 Skrull dials, and I haven't put much thought into the (revised?) Skrull TA... but I was VERY disappointed by the Skrull figures from the Captain Marvel CTD set. You can read my comments on the individual figures in the units section, but here is the gist:
The CMM Skrulls are not mobile enough to get into position to attack, and not tough enough to resist most attacks. I grok the concept of relying on Stealth/Shape Change, but to really make use of their powers/traits you need hindering terrain. Hindering terrain is far less common than changes in elevation, which simply puts them at a huge disadvantage on most maps. The Telekinesis is a pretty poor option for moving swarms around for a variety of reasons (costs actions, requires lines-of-fire, short range). The new F4 Skrull General helps overcome the deployment issues by granting the Underworld TA to all Skrulls, which is a HUGE game changer for swarm builds.
For comparison, look at the similarly costed Starfleet/Romulan/Klingon dials. The Star Trek figures do a much better job complimenting common keyword allies and quite a few of them do something for their allies if defeated: the Romulan Centurion giving the option to generate hindering terrain, for example).
Besides their defensive weaknesses (generally pitiful against a very common attack type: ranged attacks that ignore hindering terrain) the CMM Skrulls as they simply don't have reliable means of damaging opposing figures with damage reducers. It looks like both of these complaints are (slightly) addressed in the newer F4 Skrulls who have been given some damage reducers and base 3-damage... all without inflating the point cost of the 'generics'.
It was not my intent to rain on your anticipation! The newer Skrulls are a big improvement, as long as the General is available to help them move around.
I'm looking at the new Skrulls. When I see each dial on its own, I'm not impressed. Maybe I would have been happier with them in the days before Sharon Carter and the Captain...
So let's look at them as a group, on a theme team. The General improves everyone's Shape Change so that it ends the action. He also turns the Warriors into taxis for the Infiltrators. You end up with a mobile swarm that's going to ignore almost 50% of attacks - but can't do more than plink at Invulnerable or high foes. Do you use them as cannon fodder for Super-Skrull? Delay, block and tie-up enemies while he uses Close Combat Expert?
We need another big hitter, I think. I can't see adding Talos - 100 points for Blades? So, does the Skrull team need a second Super-Skrull? A Skrull Technician for Outwit?
I think they'll be fun for Swarm Team Night, I think they'll be annoying, I just think they've been defeated before Turn 1 by their ultimate foe - the Power Creep.

The first team I thought of (still waiting for my pieces to arrive) was Super Skrull at 100 pts, Silver Surfer 047b, Skrull General, 2x Skrull Warrior, 2x Skrull Infiltrator. Then 5 points for a Mandarin Ring or somethin. Idk seems fun to me... buuuut I知 a new player so it痴 why I asked for opinions here lol

It does look fun. I would probably drop the second Skrull Warrior and 25 points off Super to play the CMM Skrull Technician to get TK and Outwit and still have the 5 points for the Mandarin Ring of your choice.

Yes I was thinking something like this also, of course I値l be doing some playing and tweaking. Still waiting for my Surfer to get here...
Technician does seem like a solid include, I値l have to definitely try that sort of variant. Thanks for the input! I do have the Incandescence Mandarin Ring....
So as an update after playing with these guys for a bit, I think this setup is pretty nasty:
2x Super Skrull (50 pts ea)
Silver Surfer Prime (70 pts)
Skrull technician (50 pts)
Skrull General (30 pts)
Skrull Warrior (30 pts)
Skrull Infiltrator (20 pts)
Super Skrulls are so tough to hit when you use The Thing and Mr. Fantastic abilities.... you gotta get through 50% shape Change, hit the 18, get through Super seances, then deal with impervious... Surfer HSS to hit away willpower and run back to General for leadership, and on top of all that, 30 pt Skrull Warrior Is waiting around to hit people within 10 squares with that 12 atk 3 damage. This team is fun, I recommend!
Super Skrull at 50pts is a nice candidate for Old man Steve Rogers for building Avengers Theme teams too. Super Skrull is my favorite piece from the FF set lol
