I'm sure it's a simple explanation but it's going over my head. What does the term "Opposing Attack Rolls" and "Friendly Attack Rolls" actually mean when utilizing certain characters. Any examples would be greatly appreciated.
Okay, let's start with affe043 Scarlet Witch: RALLY (1): Friendly Attack Rolls. When an opposing character within range and line of fire makes an attack, you may remove Scarlet Witch's RALLY die and replace a die in the attack roll with it.
You make an attack roll. Does the final roll have a 1? Scarlet Witch gets a RALLY die.
Now let's check out affe008 Human Torch: RALLY (4): Opposing Attack Rolls. When Human Torch hits, you may remove his RALLY die to deal penetrating damage.
Your opponent makes an attack roll. Does the final roll have a 4? Human Torch gets a RALLY die.
Ahhh, okay. So, if I use xmrf001 Wolverine who's Rally power is..."RALLY (5): Opposing Attack Rolls. Regeneration. When Wolverine uses it, before rolling the d6 you may instead remove his RALLY die to use it as the result." If my opponent rolls a 5 in his attack against me, I gain a single Rally die, correct?
I was under the opinion that Wolverine (and anyone else with the power) would start off with 5 Rally die.

You are correct.

No, you don't get a RALLY die unless the trigger happens.
So Rally Die effects that don't actually manipulate the die results (like how Scarlett Witch 's does) could really just be a token, right? Doesn't actually need to be a die? Seems sort of confusing really.

I've been using a single die on each card to keep track of how many they have. That includes SLOP Mister Sinister who works similar to Scarlet Witch.
